The search function in WhatsApp not working -- please help!

My wife has many dozens of chats in her WhatsApp and thus uses the chat search function to find the chat she needs. This worked fine until last week in her Blackberry Keyone. It also works fine in WhatsAppWeb. This week she migrated to a new Blackberry Key2 and the chat search function is there but nothing happens when you type something. Also the search function inside a chat doesn't work. I uninstalled and installed from scratch the app, making sure it is the most current one. I did this twice, to no avail. This is an app used for work and she is quite desperate. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Email WhatsApp - android@support.whatsapp.com - giving them the phone make and model, the version of Android it's running and all the problems.

I posted the original question. I have resolved the problem. It required a factory reset of the Blackberry Key2. After reinstalling the whole phone from scratch, the new installation of WhatsApp works fine. So, a lot of work, but a complete solution to the problem.
