The Soak Test Begins....

Yea, that'd be kind of an issue. :) Then again, given all the crap that I've seen people talking about with the OTA itself, you may not have a smooth update there, either. One thing people REALLY TRULY need to understand is to get their media off their sdcard BEFORE updating. Else they're in for a LONG wait while the update script runs on first boot after the update applies.

Does this apply to those that are completely stock?

Being stock has nothing at all to do with it. The ICS update script that runs when you first install ICS scans all your media. If you have lots of music/videos/pictures/etc then it can take 10+ _HOURS_ to finish. I know of one person who was longer than that. So I recommend people move their stuff OFF their SDCARD before doing the ICS update else you will find out first hand what I'm talking about. And if you think "oh no big deal, I'll just kill it if that happens to me" think again. Pulling the battery as many on the moto forum have done, will break the gallery irreversibly until you do a factory reset. So trust me on this, as the author of the HoB, I've seen many people have this issue.

I'd also add that folks might want to unfreeze any apps that they've frozen with Titanium Backup or an equivalent utility before installing the OTA. Just generally clean things up. I didn't have any real problems, and I don't have anything much in the way of media on the device, but it took probably half an hour after the download was complete to verify the downloaded file, then probably another half-hour or so to actually go through the installation.

This is why the house of bionic exists. It does all that annoying cleanup for you. Except the backup and moving media files. But it fixes bootstrap safestrap forever root etc. It's rather useful in that regard.

Thanks for the advice! I had no idea. I probably would have freaked out if the update took that long.

could we prefix our media folders with a "." to prevent then from being scanned? I know that prevents stuff from showing up in the gallery....

I just checked for updates and it says:

"An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete."

Can't wait for the download to finish!!!

It's open for pull by all now which is why the servers are overloaded. Moto blew that one imo.

I was finally able to get mine to start downloading. It was initially saying update is being downloaded, you will be notified, but there wasn't any status or percentage to let me know how far along it was. To get it to update I cleared data on the Updater application and then rebooted my phone. Not long after that I got a notification that says Downloading Updates...

Haha yeah, I'm still waiting. How bout u JesusG?

Wow. Kind of upset.

ICS is awesome. Now 1200 MHz everything is better...

Why so long for update moto?

Still doing stuff in background. Phone was super slow for about 20 min. Now proving to be very fast!

Love it!

Probably underestimated the demand.

They should have done more push rollouts this week.

No kidding. Now everyone has gone from complaining about "OMGZ PONIES WHERE IS IT?! I'm in the middle of f'ing nowhere and it hasn't arrived here yet cause it's not based on location!" to "OMGZ PONIES this download is SO slow!" Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Moto is always caught in a nowin scenario.

Finally got it! This is so awesome! Glad the wait is over... If this fixes my 4g problems (won't know till I get back to the states) I could keep this phone for a long time
