"The Verge" Confirms VZW Apps Preloaded & Other Details

I use it as a backup. My gmail was hacked and I lost all my contacts one time and it was nice to have backup assistant as a safeguard in case that happened again.

The backup to Google backup is called "export". ;-) I always want a file in my possession.

I've dropped my OG Droid and Droid X countless times and neither ever cracked or broke.
Same here with my OG Droid. Dropped it from waist height onto a concrete sidewalk a dozen times and all I have to show for it is some paint scratches.

They don't make anything like they used to. My OG Droid with slide out keyboard feels like a tank in and out of my pocket. I am actually looking forward to something that feels lighter. The Moto phones after the OG Droid are not built the same way and you can tell it when you handle them. I have never had a Samsung Phone but I have been to the store several times, felt them up, and held them and I think I will be Ok with the GN.

Unfortunately when u wash a phone cellebritte can't work. Lucky I have gzone phones that can be washed.
For phones like yours cellebrite/BUA (if available) are some of the only options.

True I had the incredible and couldn't stand the lightness of it sold it on ebay for a premium and bought the X. But the nexi ill get the biggest battery and that will make the phone fill better.
I had a droid, droid2, and droid x, along with a samsung fascinate. I have never felt that because the fascinate was more plastic that it was anymore likely to break than any of my previous droids. I liked the light weight that samsung has with their devices and the screens are really nice. I am sure the nexus will feel just as solid when compared to my fascinate. I think some people just automatically think that because something is plastic that it is not as good or built as well. Wasn't it rumored that the nexus had a metal shell on the inside to help with strength?

If you wash a phone or drop it in water I have heard that you should pull the battery and submerge the phone in rice(not the minute rice stuff) but old fashioned long cooking uncooked rice. Leave it there a few days completely covered and the rice will pull the moisture out of the components. Now I have never had to do this but the the lady where I get my hair cut says this worked for her. I make sure I don't take my phone into the bathroom or kitchen or any place I might drop it into water---If I see water the phone doesn't go with me.

Water can still swell components, increasing heat and reducing dissipation. Rice is an absorbent material and can definitely help reduce the moisture within reason (ever notice the salt shakers w/ rice in them in high humidity places?), but it still might not get everything. I would suggest placing it in a closed bag to increase the heat, which will pull moisture off the surface of the device for the rice to soak up. DO NOT PUT YOUR PHONE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT.

Only if you damage the contacts, otherwise it should be good. You can even clean off rust if the contacts have rust build up preventing a good connection.

I had an old Blackberry Tour that got some water in it and stopped functioning. Did the dried rice bowl thing and stuck it outside in the sun under a bucket for 24 hours and it worked fine after that.

My current Droid X also got a lot of moisture in it when I put it in the same camelbak pocket that contains the bag of cold water and it malfunctioned. Did the rice thing as well and it works great minus a weird functioning camera button (which I don't use anyway for taking pictures).

agreed on all levels. I have seen way too many broken iphone screens....that is not quality to me.

My friends all break their I phones just as much as their Xbox gets the red ring. Nobody learns.

Ah brand loyalty! Xbox slim made some big changes and it has gotten closer to ps3 at least. I was really surprised apple didn't do something knowing that users frequently destroyed their screens (especially when the smallest drop creates the most ugly screen fractures, nulling the beauty that it was before)

what, free bumpers wasnt enough? :p

two bloatware apps and they're not hardwired into the phones os

sounds peachy to me :) I would get the my verizon app anyway

but seriously. wtf is with backup assistant, why does it even exist. all our contacts are synced to gmail! who needs this crap?

The backup assistant app backups your contacts to a VZ site. So if you change phones, for example to a dumb phone that has backup assistant, you can get your contacts to the phone that way. And you can manage your contacts from the myVerizon site as well.

Maybe you won't need or use it, but doesn't hurt to have another option just in case.

What?! And lose out on all that money from the apple faithful replacing/repairing their phones? It's a feature I tell you!

A feature, ha! That is what the engineers at my job tell me when I tell them that something doesn't work right. It's a new feature and the customers will have to learn to do things differently.

Hopefully, someone can verify if this is true cuz I've been fortunate to not try this out. Just wanted to pass this along since it's what a residential service repair tech. from AT&T advised me to do if itever happened again. This does seem plausible given the chemical reaction to water that takes place. The best method to save a completely waterlogged phone. Once out of water, as quick as you can, completely submerge your phone and battery in rubbing alcohol, leave it in there as long as it takes.to get thoroughy soaked. Then pull them both out and let it air dry. Theory being that the liquid penetrates like water, but the alcohol eats up & dries up all moisture on contact.
