"The Verge" Confirms VZW Apps Preloaded & Other Details

I'm not sure how much that applies anymore, google is clearly focusing much more on the consumer market with ics then they have with any previous version.

So their developers get put on the backburner? I highly doubt that, other wise you'd have less apps. Yes they can use other devices, but the reason devs want a developer device is to not have bloatware/excess crap.

I know its a consumer market, but Nexus is also a more dedicated developer phone.

If I were a sales tech I would not push someone into the nexus unless they seemed technically savy. If you are buying a nexus and you are not technically savvy I would say you are making the wrong choice. For the users who I have suggested a nexus to that aren't, they KNOW the phone is more advanced than their skill level, which is why their phone will be unboxed and brought to me. For other consumer phones that are more geared to just work out of the box I say great, but for the nexus I say no thanks, again and again.

What JB33 said. ICS is clearly intended for the consumer market, so it should absolutely be pushed to consumers that would not have chosen stock Android in the past. The more people that realize how good stock Android is, the less manufacturers will try and push their disgusting skins on us.

That's not even true. The reason developers want devices like this is because they have STOCK ANDROID without any manufacturer skins. THAT is the reason the Nexus exists.

Not at all, if I recall correctly the galaxy nexus also comes with a lot of developer specific settings that are new to android with ics, that does not mean they cannot try to appeal to the consumer market though

Your mom needs to let you out of the basement more often, junior.

I am actually on opposites coasts on business right now. I haven't lived at home for a while my friend.

Nexus is a pure google device experience, which neither backup assistant or myvzw are pure google experiences.

that is some bad logic...because GB is a consumer OS, so is froyo. ICS may be a consumer OS, but Nexus is still a developer based phone.

Can I go to sleep now? Everyone play nice. Debate is great just chill with the personal attacks. Thank you.

I certainly hadn't intended for this thread to turn into the hotly contested discussion!

Wow. It looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue. ;)

Ironically, some devs. want bloat free phones so they can incorporate their own bloat apps. into the OS and eventually distribute to whomever wants it in the android marketplaces. It's kinda funny that way. Consumers who enjoy bloat free android, mostly do so, for quite different reasons, when you think about it.

First of all Backup Assistant sucks and has never worked properly for me. Verizon themselves have even claimed that it sucks (at least to me they did, when I was an employee).
The poster earlier is right though, that it is good fro people that are coming from a non-android phone, but then again it's better to either do it the Cellebrite way or via Bluetooth.

The best way to backup your contacts is to the SD card. It has never failed me.

Anyway, My Verizon is a good app. I see no problem with either one of them being on the phone, even if you couldn't disable them.

this is like a Honda car forum with all the little kids that get their first slammin Vtec powered muscle-car killing Civic...except for the fact the phones not even out yet.

Honestly, out of what they reported, I am most happy about the coloration being about the same as the GSM version and not terribly darker.

I found it interesting that the renderings on the google site show it being darker, but in real life its lighter. I'm more of a matte black kind of guy, I would of really liked it to be darker. But eh, I'll just cover it in a case or something. No biggie.

I don't really know what a "pure google experience is" All I know is I want a phone that does not have a OEM skin like my current OG Droid...which also has developers options that I have never even used. With the Gn I might look into them but I just want a phone without an OEM skin to slow it down...that's pure enough for me.

Don't really care about my Verizon backup because I backup to my PC and use Google contacts and mail.

MY Verizon:

I posted this info on another thread:

My Verizon shows data usage. I read an article in the newspaper saying that the USA Fed gov. threatened the carriers with regulations because they were not giving more information to customers about their data use and minutes before they exceeded their plans limits. The gov was going to create and enforce guidelines, and so then the carriers agreed to providing this info to customers. If this app is included on the phone this might be the way Verizon intends to show that they are providing this information to consumers. I'll bet you see this on every Verizon phone in the future.

eh idk about the screen. I know it is different than the razr but the razr screen isn't anything special. Plus I think once the nexus is out and people see it, it may sway some average consumers to buy it.

My vzw has been around along time since back in my BBS days since before the government got involved.
If u don't set up the app then its pointless and doesn't help the consumer.
