The wife destroyed her EVO, here is how the insurance works.

Sorry for the trauma that you and your wife experienced, but I appreciate knowing that the insurance actually worked for you as well as could be expected.

Up til now, I was considering passing on the insurance, but this thread is a good reminder that we are dealing with pretty fragile, and really expensive stuff, and that accidents will happen, so I think I will swallow hard and sign up for it when I get my EVO next month.

I too would like to know if her EVO was in any kind of case, and if so, which kind, when it flipped out of the car.

i didn't see the case question answered - did she have a case on it or no? if yes which one?

I too would like more details on the fall that caused that amount of damage. I dropped my Pre and before that my Mogul countless times in the manner you described and never had damage like that! It never even resulted in so much as a small crack on the screen.

Did the touchscreen still work with the glass broken? A coworker has an iphone that looks like a bullet hit the screen and then spiderwebbed the entire glass but everything still works perfectly.

ok so NO the phone was NOT in any kind of case at all. We were actually going to check out cases later that day. She had it setting in her lap and forgot about it, when she got out of the car at the gym it just fell to the concrete and landed directly on a corner. Yes the touchscreen works perfectly, however you can feel the edges of every crack. They are sending her a brand new Evo which should be here in 7 to 10 work days:( So she still has to use it for a while.

Someone also mentioned the camera quality in low light, Yes in low light the camera quality is pretty bad.

I love the EVO, and can only imagine what HTC will be cranking out in 3 years from now.

Wow! Judging by the picture, it looks like it hit on the corner by the Search button.

Hmm, given that, I may invest in one of those bumper cases. I could see if it landed face-first on a rock, but that amount of damage from a corner impact is disconcerting, to say the least.

Well, I already have TEP on my plan, so I'm not worried about it too much.

this thread pushed me into adding the insurance for my evo, lol actually just got done doing it.

7-10 work days??? Is that because they are out of stock or something? It has always been a matter of pride that TEP sent out the replacement overnight and you got it the very next day!!!

Asurion is the insruance company and they are like that with all phones. Sending back just the phone that is. I have had to use them twice. Once for a broken screen on a tour and once for my hero falling in the toilet.

EVO=no Gorilla glass, i think this puts an end to that discussion...

Hah. Sorry I had to laugh at that with all discussion of the glass screen.

It hurts me to see that happen to your wife's phone. Sprint's insurance is the reason why i stopped buying their phones at their corp stores and switching to best buy and getting their insurance. With Sprint, you need to have a specific insurance for them to fix your phone. If you do not have that certain insurance, then you're stuck callin the third party company they have and paying a huge down payment or buying a whole new phone.

With best buy's black tie, it's ten bucks and no matter what happens to your phone, they will fix it or replace it completely. That even covers water damage, something that sprint said they would not cover when I had my instinct. The flaw to best buy's insurance is that they have to send your phone out to their repair shop, but they do give you a temporary phone while your phone is bein fixed.

Ouch $7 a month and $100 replacement fee. Because I'm a long time sprint customer I'm eligible for a new phone (or the discount) every 12 months. Half of me wants to get the insurance. But the other half of me does the math and says I'm better off not getting it.

At least your experience was good. I know numerous people who bought insurance plans on laptops and the 3rd party companies that underwrote them would do anything not to fix them. In one case a guy broke his screen, sent his laptop in and didn't get it back for like 9 months. It's things like that that really make me shy away from these insurance plans. Please let us know when the new phone arrives and if it is new or refurbed.

You can get the yearly upgrade when you have a plan that's 69.99 or higher. Since you have the Evo, you must have that plan. At least if you go back to a dumb phone you retain your premiere status.

Be careful and realize that without the insurance, if the phone breaks, you have to pay the full retail price for the replacement (or, I guess, find it cheaper on eBay if you want to take that chance).

Your $199 EVO includes your contract agreement for two years. Since that contract is already in place, Sprint has no incentive to give you the discounted pricing (not to mention a second mail-in rebate).

The retail price is $449.99. The insurance is $7.00 a month plus a $100 deductible. Over the course of the contract, that insurance is $168.00 (24 months x $7.00). If (and there are instances where the deductible won't have to be paid) you need to use the insurance, you would end up paying $268 out of pocket instead of $449.99. That's $181.99 to your favor.

Insurance is there to mitigate risk and reduce cash outlay from your pocket.

Everyone feels great about saving the $7.00 a month in insurance until that fateful day when their EVO smashes to the ground.

was your wife getting out of a truck with like a 2' lift onit or what that thig is smashed
