The wife destroyed her EVO, here is how the insurance works.

With best buy's black tie, it's ten bucks and no matter what happens to your phone, they will fix it or replace it completely. That even covers water damage, something that sprint said they would not cover when I had my instinct. The flaw to best buy's insurance is that they have to send your phone out to their repair shop, but they do give you a temporary phone while your phone is bein fixed.

I got the BB insurance too, do you know if you have to pay an extra $100 to use it also?

What did her face look like after you were done with her? I'm kidding! No seriously, did you punch her?
How could physical abuse seem funny to you?

The scary part is that you think everyone would see physical abuse as funny as well.

Lighten Up!

are you sure it only fell from her lap? it looks like it fell off maybe a 2nd+ story building and then got stepped on...

I don't know if the current soft cases would be enough. It would be nice if someone would design a case that was made of something truly shock absorbent.

Something truly shock absorbing might be bigger than we'd want to deal with. Agreed the current soft cases aren't perfect, but I think they're better than a hard case for absorbing energy.

What we really need is a case made of sorbothane:

Shock Absorbing Material | Sorbothane

I recall seeing a video of a demo where they put a raw egg inside a sorbothane cube and dropped off the roof of a building, with no damage to the egg at all.

We need smart phone airbags ... when free fall is detected, an airbag pops out, and it bounces around ...

The trick to absorbing impact is constant deceleration and distributing the force ... impact spike on the corner is pretty much worst case.

After reading this I am so glad I went ahead and got the sprint insurance for all three of my families EVO's.
As for Bestbuy vs. Sprint insurance.

I went with sprint because it includes loss/theft also.

my evo survived a 4ft fall onto a parking garage floor just fine today, the Seidio Innocase did its job!

No deductible. They send your phone out for repair and you can get a loaner by paying 150 but you get that back when you return the loaner phone. The loaner phone will be a cheap feature phone. You can also buy a smart phone at full price
And return it when you get your phone back. The bb insurance is what insurance I have. Bb replaced my pre with the evo because they stopped carrying the pre. Also it takes two to three weeks to find out what they going to do with your phone ...replace it with the same model or let you choose a different phone

I used the Sprint insurance to replace my pre. Filed the claim online at about 8pm eastern time and had the replacement phone by 1pm the next day. They sent a new battery and a back cover along with the phone.

The phone they sent me was no good so I called and they sent another one overnight with another battery and back cover. The return instructions clearly state to return the phone only so I ended up with two new batteries and two more back covers. :)

Sent from my HTC Evo 4G

Hah. Sorry I had to laugh at that with all discussion of the glass screen.

It hurts me to see that happen to your wife's phone. Sprint's insurance is the reason why i stopped buying their phones at their corp stores and switching to best buy and getting their insurance. With Sprint, you need to have a specific insurance for them to fix your phone. If you do not have that certain insurance, then you're stuck callin the third party company they have and paying a huge down payment or buying a whole new phone.

With best buy's black tie, it's ten bucks and no matter what happens to your phone, they will fix it or replace it completely. That even covers water damage, something that sprint said they would not cover when I had my instinct. Yeah, but only problem with the black tie protection...it doesn't cover a lost or stolen phone. That in itself makes the insurance useless to me. I can be assured I'll be covered thanks to the Sprint insurance.

How many times have you lost or had your phone stolen?

This thread made me feel better about my SEIDIO Active LE from Amazon! I think I'll live with the extra bulk and weight ;)

I used Asurion once each on my Pre and my Hero. I don't believe it took 7-10, but it wasn't overnight, either (maybe 3-4 days). One other thing about the insurance. I am pretty sure they told me I could only utilize it twice in a year. In other words, if you brick your third phone, you can't smash the screen and replace it through the insurance.

I'll answer as I went with sprint insurance for the same reason. I've never had a phone stolen. But sprint offering loss/stolen protection is an added benifit.

Other than a loner phone for 3 weeks and nodetuctable. I just don't see any advantage to best buy in my opinion.

Or maybe I'm just one who thinks that if I am so clumsy that I destroy my phone. That paying $100 bucks due to my stupidity isn't that big a deal.

And that I honestly believe that my daughter losing her phone, or someone stealing it at school is more likely than her trashing it.

the evos camera is soo good that i can tell shes a smoker by the yellow fingernail corners lol

I live on the wild side with no insurance and no case. Worries me a little because I've gotten out of the car with my previous phone in my lap. Hopefully doesn't happen too my baby haha
