Just curious, how does Samsung compare to HTC as far as devices, rooting and ROM go? Is the Thunderbolt still the way to go?

HTC's devices are by far the easiest to root. MOTO is the hardest due to the locked bootloader. I don't have experience with samsung devices getting rooted.

Well of course it was an exaggeration, chief. But you have to admit that it's getting that way.

And to me, being unable to switch from 3G <-> 4G reliably is a pretty major issue. Wouldn't you agree?

I actually disagree, especially since the phone has not been given an official launch date. A YouTube video that was up for 2 days and a comment that they are "hoping to release it sooner" does not count in my book. Back at CES, I had expected it to be launched in March. When I heard the Feb rumors, I was excited, but didn't really get my hopes up. It will launch when the phone and network are ready and I would not want it any earlier.

Switching from 3G to 4G is for data only. All calls are on 3G as far as I know. As long as I don't get dropped calls, I'm fine. If my download messes up, then I'll deal with it - it's part of being a first adopter. The handoff is an issue, but IMHO, does not constitute a "barely functioning network"

One of the guys on another forum, that works at bb and has been trying to give us details, says when he went into work tonight and checked the system to see if there was anything new and said that now it is no longer in the inventory system at all, the sku # and everything is gone. So that's not looking so good unless they are changing it up for the release next week or something.

Coming from Samsung Fascinate, I'd like to say those are easy to root as well.

Did I see a comment somewhere where BMX thought in his opinion the Samsung 4G phone was better than the TB? Or am I just delusional?

I think he said Sammy had a better screen

Samsungs all achieve root, but they are the absolute slowest at getting Android OS updates.

For example, half of the phones on the Galaxy line (which, may I remind you, is Samsung's high-end phone lineup right now on all carriers) STILL don't even have Froyo

But if you are rooted you can load other ROMs correct?

It's easy to root but Samsung is lagging behind with the OS updates in the US and are a little tighter with their source code which slows development. The Fascinate still only has a half working Gingerbread until more source gets released.
