There's a storm brewing...

I don't know much about android apps as this will be my first smart phone, but is something such as Advanced Task Killer a necessity or is it useless?
Also, are there apps to track data usage assuming they go with the tiered plans and are they accurate?

I'm in the same boat actually, I'm coming from a blackberry curve I've had for over 2 years.

As far as the task killer, I think I've read that you shouldn't use them, but I personally don't really know.

I'll be getting apps that will help me find my phone when I lose it. I'm coming from a BB Storm, so I don't even know what an "app" is, lol. So, I don't know the names of the different apps, but I know there are a few that really help. I constantly leave my phone at friends' houses, so some of those apps are important for me.

I am also coming from a blackberry curve...and because of that, I feel like a little kid waiting for the TB because it will be such an immense upgrade from this POS!

Thank you Cory for adding the "Updated" part to the thread title. It might new be new, but I only noticed it now, so thanks.

You guys will not need to use a task killer installed the Thunderbolt it will only hurt your battery life.

The Android OS will take care of tasks... you do not need a task killer... there is a way to kill tasks built into the Settings, but even that will take up more battery to perform that then just letting the OS stop the process when it would normally by doing nothing. Don't listen to any rep at any provider saying different... they don't know what they are talking about.

I came from the BB world also... listen to the Podcasts here on AC... they are VERY informative.

I have an iPod touch, so I'm familiar with lots of apps, but I'm very aware that there's going to be a huge difference between that and a Tbolt. I'll probably spend a while going through everything that is already on there first, and let that help me decide the first few apps I get. It's going to be overload, I think, if I'm not patient with it.

Yes. Auto Task Killers are more of a nuisance than beneficial. I also don't use AntiVirus apps like LookOut.

I myself will probably be sifting through apps for days before I choose anything. I also am coming from the Crapberry Curve, so I'll be researching, and posting on here, and researching, and posting...and downloading...and destroying the VZW 4G bandwidth!! BWAH HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Who here doesn't think the Thunderbolt will sell out? As I recall when I purchased the Dinc. The phone when back ordered shortly after release. This phone I think will be a hot seller just like the Dinc was, maybe even more. Personally, I plan on ordering the phone or being at the VZW store the minute it is avail. What about you?

I, for one, don't think it will sell out ( maybe at some isolated stores) ...when DInc came out there were not many options for high end android phones. Now Verizon itself has a lot to offer and more coming up soon ( don't kill me now for using that dreaded word ;) ).

Morning all, no updates from my store :( of course the girl i spoke to wasn't one of my friends from the store i only shop at. When I said i heard it was coming out the 17th she was "oh, thats nice" hmm, i don't think she likes her job LOL

I asked about the accessories and they were keeping them in the back apparently
I asked to see them, one accessory caught my eye and it was a case that looked like it was rubber but it wasn't, it was by body glove and it had a holster clip built into the case, and get this *drum roll please* a kickstand LOL!!!

Why the heck would you need another kickstand when its already built into the phone? anyone want to answer that? best part besides the kickstand? $29.99 for the POS

Nearly all the accessories that Verizon will be selling Amazon will have on there site just like the Droid Incredible accessories last year, I believe Verizon was selling the car dock for $39.99 and Amazon ended up selling for $25.

I'm still holding out for the 17th

Hopefully there will be news tomorrow and if not tomorrow, Tuesday at the latest :(

I'll be switching from a BB Tour. I already downloaded google sync and have synced all my contacts to my google acct. What I want to know is does EVERY contact in your gmail e-mail contact list get added to the phone when you sync it? Is there a way to have ONLY the phone contacts added? I really don't want all 500 contacts added to my Thunderbolt phonebook.

Thanks.

I have a question, has the app store improved at all? I remember playing with my fiance's Dinc and I was not a fan of the app store and trying to search for anything. I was used to the iPod app store, which I really think is very good. So yeah, has the app store improved at all?

I've not found anything that will filter my contacts... a thought though: you could export those you don't want and put them in a different Google account, then just not sync that account's contacts with your device. Personally, I have 3 Gmail accounts and it only sync one for Contacts and Calendars.

also there was a shortage of AMOLED screens- which contributed to the delay on the Incredible. Eventually They changed the screen to SLCD due to the shortage.

I use AppBrain... it's a great app, and a great search and review website.

in the phone using the "people" app on Sense, after you sign in using your google account, you will be able to choose contacts by group, so it would be best to group them on your google account online before you get it on the phone. You can sort by friends, favorites, family, all, facebook (by default if you have a contact in you contacts list and it finds that they are also on facebook once you have your facebook signed in, it will ask you to link that contact to your facebook and google account contact, so it will begin to use the facebook profile pic once linked, and it will also show facebook updates of that contact if you receive a call from them on the screen it will show the latest status update they posted to there profile as well as there birthday if its coming up or is the day they are calling you. (kinda like a facebook caller id)

This is what the widget will look like if you use the 4x4 widget

another thing you can do is, for the people widget you can select which group of the contacts you want to have on your home screen widget and it will only show them as well as any facebook status updates and twitter (must be signed into those)

HTC - HTC Sense

i recommend taking a look at that link to see what HTC sense can do, keep in mind not all the features on that page are on the thunderbolt thanks to verizon, but since it will be rooted a custom rom will bring all those features and more to the Thunderbolt.

missing features include:

HTC Locations/Maps
HTC Hub

Another useful feature of Sense 2.0 is the integration of Contacts Migration:

On a forum I used to frequent a couple of years ago, the swear filter was very clever... one of the examples was that the word "hell" (hope that's not a filtered word) autocorrected to "New Jersey" I think we need to have Cory implement software here that would autocorrect "soon" to "whenever the heck Verizon feels like it" or something to that effect ;)
