These 'Pixel 2 problem!' stories need to stop

It's a pity that the main problem with the phone gets little to no coverage at all though. Completely unusable phone with car Bluetooth and being told that it won't work unless you go buy a car with 5.0 by Google is absolutely ridiculous. Screw users to try push a few pixel buds.
Haven't heard that. I know Bluetooth worked fine with the 1st Gen Pixel XL I had about 3 weeks ago. Is that a Pixel 2/XL issue?

I've not yet left the house since setting mine up Wednesday night so I've not paired mine to my 2010 Tahoe.

I don't have a car with Bluetooth 5 and working fine streaming music via Bluetooth on car stereo, taking calls, or automatically connecting every time I get into the car. It's been always problem with Android Bluetooth stack, different phones perform differently with car Bluetooth. I haven't seen a single phone in the forums where someone doesn't complain that Bluetooth doesn't work great with car. Have to say, see these more on Nexus and now Pixel phones.

My truck doesn't have BT5, and I haven't had any issues connecting. Since my truck was bought in Feb 2016, and BT5 wasn't released to December of 2016, it doesn't have it. And I haven't had any issues with connection. It streams music from Amazon and GPM, it plays local music files, and phone calls work just fine. Even smart unlock using BT works fine. I used it on the original Pixel and now on the Pixel 2.

I have the issue with Bluetooth in my car. Connects fine, streams fine but cannot use voice control to place a call. Or rather I can when I first get in the car, phone screen on. Works as it should. But once screen is locked, although the Assistant will come up, it will not pick up anything I say, it's as if the mic is not connected.
Same problem with Bluetooth ear piece. Have to use phone to place call, which kinda defeats the purpose.
Have had multiple Android phones as well as iPhones, this is the only one that hasn't worked as it should.

Read somewhere you can turn off the mic through Bluetooth and use the phone speaker? Where is this option to be found please?

My 2 xl works perfectly with my car. It is a 2013 Veloster so it definitely doesn't have BT5.

It's only been a couple days but is it already time to walk away from the forums so I don't read a thread and go looking for issues?

You don't have to leave! Don't worry! In a typical forum/website environment like iMore, Google reviews, etc, some are more likely to post about issues with their products/negative reviews of establishments than they are to post praise reports. However, there are a lot of satisfied Pixel 2/2 XL users here, for sure! Take a look around the forums and see! :)

Also, for a real-life review: my friend just bought the Pixel 2 XL and loves it!

My Pixel 2 is still working flawlessly. Best battery life I've ever had out of a phone. Does all that I request of it with speed and fluidity. It amazes me on a daily basis. Only issue I've had is that I still don't have the November security patch. But, that's not near enough to give up on a near perfect phone. If I really have to have the November patch, I'll sideload it. I'm just a little stubborn and waiting for the OTA.

It's using voice controls is the issue.

Someone else mentioned that, and I'm just wondering how you mean that. On my truck, it has a voice control button on the steering wheel. If you push that and say call John on mobile, it does. Google Assistant also works with the key phrase, and as far as I recall, that's the only ways it can do voice control. By that I mean if I just say call John on mobile without pushing the steering wheel button or using "Hey Google" to start Assistant, it won't do anything. But if I use one of those two methods it works fine.

I think the problem is when you don't use the Bluetooth in your vehicle or you don't have a Bluetooth capable vehicle.

I believe the problem is when you are using a Bluetooth headset and you call up Google Assistant. Once Google Assistant is activated it does not respond to further commands given through the Bluetooth headset microphone. It's as if Google Assistant can't hear you talking.

There was an entire thread on this topic in this forum.

I hear you. I wanted to want the 5T but 6" is too big for my small hands.

I'm pretty amazed at how these newer phones have such a small footprint vs screen size. My V30 with a 6" display is a scosche smaller then my 5.7" MXPE

For sure! I've actually heard that the OnePlus 5T is a bit smaller compared to other six-inch phones; like the Nexus 6.

Every day I'm more tempered to buy a 2 XL and send back the 2 lol
I dare you

The main reason I wouldn't is because I prefer the small form factor. But, since the 2 XL is more Marie and taller, I'm sure it has a nice feel in the hand as well.
Same here. I like the smaller Pixel 2 for its better in-hand feel (IMO).

I've always liked smaller devices so the 2 was a good choice for me.

So I got the wife to download Google duo so that fixed the FaceTime issue. Now my issue is playing music in my truck. With my iPhone I just plug it into the USB in my center console then into the phone. With the pixel though, that didn't work. Says it couldn't read it in my 2010 Tahoe. Guess I'll have to run to best buy and pick up a Bluetooth auxillary receiver.

Any suggestions?
