Things Improved/Changed with GB

I would try a battery pull first. I have not done a factory reset and my clock/weather widget works fine. Tapping the clock gets me to the alarm. I did a battery pull right after the GB install was done.

Wish a simple battery pull worked for me. It didn't and that is why I had to do a factory reset (It only took a few minutes to set everything back and I had my data backed up anyway.). It is weird how different phones behave. Must be the various types of apps being used.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this one, but there is an icon now to switch between the front and rear cameras on the camera screen. Kinda handy.

OK, My clock widget is not working either. I did a battery pull and still not.
Doing a factory reset will not screw up GB?? Will I still have GB or have to update
it again?? (My first Smartphone!!)
Thanks!!

Crossposting this from the clock/alarm thread. I just spoke with HTC support about the post-Gingerbread problem in which tapping the clock no longer does anything, no longer brings up the clock screen with the alarms and timers and all. He said I was the first person he had spoken with who even had the Gingerbread update. So this was not previously an issue on their radar. Let's put it there! Those of us in the USA would call 866-449-8358. But don't do it from the phone you're calling about, they ask, I guess since they'll be asking you to fiddle with the phone while you talk and plus you may need your MEI number, which lives under the battery.

After he went and got a Gingerbreaded Dinc2 on his end and played with it to try to replicate the issue (it occurs to me now that i don't know if the same thing was happening to his), he said the only thing he can suggest at this point is a factory reset. I'm going to try that tonight once I make sure I know all of the stuff I've got so I can get it again if something goes wrong (like apps I got on free days at Amazon, etc.).

He also suggested that I download some other apps from the market as substitutes until this gets fixed. So, just need an alarm for waking, a timer for cooking, a stopwatch for various stuff, etc. I think there was one more thing in there but I can't remember.

I asked him whether, since they just pushed out the Gingerbread update, they'd be likely to push out another update anytime soon, and he said they typically wouldn't push out an update for one little thing like this, but it all depends on how many people they hear from. If lots of people are calling in with various problems, that can influence them to release an update sooner. So don't be shy. It was an easy call and the guy I got was easy and knowledgeable.

He said the same thing happened to the Thunderbolt after an update (I don't remember hearing about it but I pay less attention to that forum after I returned that phone). He said that a later update fixed it. So I imagine this will get fixed at some point if enough issues pile up.

I also asked if I'd have to reupdate to Gingerbread after the factory reset and he said no - it will remember the most current firmware despite the factory reset.

So there you go. It's now a known issue but could use more weight of other people calling into HTC to let them know.

THANKS!!!! I'm calling now!! So scared factory reset will just screw up something else!! I already found an alarm app. I may just may keep that until a fix comes out. But I'm going to still call to report it.

FYI, you can always find the Clock app by doing a search for Applications and type 'Clock' - it is the same app that pops up when tapping the time. FWIW, my widget does work as normal and tapping the time brings up the Clock app. You'll also find the Car Panel and Dock apps by searching for them. Not sure why HTC leaves them out of the app drawer...

You can also switch Launchers and use Go Launcher for example - these apps WILL be in the app drawer with a 3rd party launcher.

I actually use Go Launcher exclusively now, and while I do miss the HTC widgets, the customization is awesome. I'm a non-root guy so this is the next best thing, IMO.

With this issue, a search will not show up the clock app just for FYI on some devices. However, Ann, I did a factory reset with no ill effect. It really is not a big deal. The worst of it is having to set the phone back up but no biggie if you requested auto backups or did a backup. If no backup, just takes a little longer. The battery pull also didn't work for me, but again, a factory reset solves the problem nicely. Took all of 15 minutes and that includes remounting some apps.

I did not look through the last 68 replies to see if anyone posted this but I just noticed more HTC wallpapers than before. Not having any issues with this update at all. So far really happy with it.

Do I have to remove my SD card before factory reset?? If I don't will it erase my music on it?

When I did a factory reset on my phone it asked me if I wanted to als wipe the SD card or not. So you should be able to choose not to without taking it out.

I haven't noticed too much aside from quick settings tab on the notification bar. It does seem to run a bit snappier and smooth.

I had recently updated my wife's D-Pro to gingerbread and was not thrilled with the baby blue accents and white menus. I am so glad it didnt do that to my dinc2 :D

yeah.. that's a moto blur thing.. luckly HTC has taste

Okay so for everyone asking about the dock mode the car panel and the car dock. Per HTC there was an error in the coding of the update and the shortcuts for these apps were left out as were the dock mode from the settings menu. As a temporary work around they have suggested downloading any cut from the market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.appdroid.anycut&feature=search_result and creating shortcuts to the programs using that. If I hear back from them again as to what the permanent solution is I will let everyone know.

Hmm, when I search for clock, I don't get the Clock as a result like you're saying. All I get is Alarm Clock Plus, which is another app I installed.

If a hard reset doesn't bring back your clock I would try the anycut app I mentioned above and then contact HTC so they can add that to the list. My guess is though like the gallery for me if you factory reset it'll be back.

Same here... Thinking about doing a factory reset tonight when I get home from work... Doing a battery pull does nothing for me...

If I do a factory reset:

Do I get all my apps from the Market back automatically or do I have to redownload manually? I know it remembers what I have, but I'm wondering if I still have to manually download each or if it just pushes them all at once.

Do I get all my apps back from Amazon automatically or do I have to redownload manually? Same as above. I know it remembers but don't know if it's automatic.

If I got an app when it was Amazon's free app of the day, will I get it back for free or will Amazon try to charge me for it this time since it's no longer the free app of the day?

If I reinstall an app that had local data, do I get the local data back? Take AK Notepad for example. I have a bunch of notes. Do I get my notes back?

(My contacts are fine because they are all now "google" contacts instead of "phone" contacts)

I've noticed the following Dinc2 post - GB changes

1) It does seems snappier. (Angry Birds seems smoother now!!)
2) New Quick settings on notifications bar
3) Better copy and past
4) Download manager

Anything else really that different?
