Things you've discovered on Note 8?

My 2016 Hyundai Sonata has Android Auto, which can be very useful when traveling. I recently purchased a Note 8, and Android Auto works just fine with it. But sometimes I don't need/want to plug my phone into the USB port for the full Android Auto experience, and explored other options.

On my phone, I have Bixby completely disabled, with Google Assistant as the primary app for this function. I also have enabled Voice Unlock, training it to use my saying "OK Google."

What I have found is that even if I have the phone in my pocket, I can switch to the Media/Bluetooth input on my car, and can then interact with Google Assistant using the car's microphone and speaker. I can say "OK Google" to wake it up, and I can then have available a wide variety of commands. Moreso, in fact, than when using Android Auto.

I've found that I can send a text quite easily. I can also ask it to read back the most recent text from a specific individual. It does this, and gives me the opportunity to reply as well. I can initiate navigation, and I can hear the turn-by-turn directions through the car's speakers.

I can ask for any type of information, weather, find the nearest Walmart, etc.

I can put my phone in the CD mounted holder I have, to be able to see the screen as well (for example, for navigation), but I really like being able to do a variety of things with my phone in my pocket. I haven't yet tried it, but I assume I can place a phone call; I can do this with the car's built-in system, but I have found that to be extremely sluggish, and not very smart.

Anyway, I don't know if this will work with all cars with bluetooth, but I was pretty pumped to discover how this works in mine.

I do need to keep the car on the media/bluetooth input, since the phone's audio doesn't over-ride this if listening to Sirius radio, for example. But then I can always listen to some podcasts on my phone, and keep it on that input.

I just discovered that the FM radio chip in my Verizon Note 8 is enabled. I downloaded an app called NextRadio and it works! It's not streaming, it's actually over-the-air. It uses the headphone cord as the antenna. I've been wondering when they were going to start enabling those FM radio chips. Evidently, Samsung has been enabling them starting with the S8s, from what I read.

Sometime this year Verizon enabled the FM chip in my S6 Edge. Never got a chance to mess with Next radio app yet. Will mess around with it later today.

If you press the 7.1.1 in software version in setting an N pops up on your screen, totally useless to know but hey......

one of the Easter Eggs they left for us perhaps, or maybe just a programming glitch?

eta - I can't even press mine to get a place to enter anything

ah. okay. pressing per the instructions on "software version". no wonder it didn't work.

tried your "android version" and still nothing. tried 4 taps and then all the way to 11 again and nothing. Sprint here.

Maybe it's removed by Sprint, do you have developer options enabled ?
It's only an N on the screen, doesn't do anything

Doesn't work on my AT&T Note either. I thought it's was because of the theme I'm using.

Thank you so much:D

Some Note 5s have had the FM radio activated. My S7 Edge also has it as well as my S8+ and Note 8.

Do you mean you chose 1 specific contact to have the edge lighting work? If so how? I'd love to be able to have it light up for just my favorite contacts for example vs. every text I receive
