Things you've discovered on Note 8?

I would like to discover... and please don't flame me for not knowing... what the usb adapters that were included with the N8 are for. I get that they are connectors, but what I don't know is their capability. are they otg? can I use them to transfer things? very unclear how I might use them. thank you in advance.

Yes, the big adapter is an OTG. They primarily include it if you were to use smart switch but it can also be used for a variety of things like charge another device in a pinch, plug in a wireless mouse usb receiver into the OTG and you can have a pointer on your phone and others (google and youtube) . The smaller is a micro-usb to usb-c adapter so you can use old micro-usb cables to charge your phone.

thank you so much! so one is extremely useful to me should I want to use OTG and the other is a just in case kind of thing. very helpful of you, and Samsung.

I like that Samsung included it for free instead of doing an Apple on it and charge for them as I had to pay full whack for this device

exactly. this is why I buy Samsung.

Hurricane Andrew '92 I evacuated with our vcr and forgot the remote. most of the functions were controlled by the remote so even after I dried out the vcr (sat in 3" of water where I had evac'd to) I had limited functions. called Samsung USA and told them what happened (buried under the debris of where I had lived) and they sent me a replacement. just like that. no arguing. I've been buying from them ever since whenever possible. and in general find they produce quality products. that vcr never died and I ended up donating it and getting another Samsung device.

Can also use the otg to connect a USB to phone and also an SD card from camera, for example. Very useful tool.

holy merde! it now takes writing a number down and going to settings and adding the number by hand, in order to block it. who came up with that brilliant move? that's why I have a N8, but I shouldn't have to write the number down when it's right there on the screen. they took away the option to block from the area where delete is and you can only select and not copy. so so dumb. this alone might make me return it. wow. so retarded.

in phone app, in Recent area, tap on number, tap details, long press on number, select Block

thank you. I knew how to do it, but the option wasn't there. I resolved this about a week ago. thanks for chiming in.

seems everyone read the message where I had to go through all the steps, but no one read the message about not having the option to do it through "details" icon since it wasn't there. no icons were underneath spam calls. it has since been resolved. thank you all.

I'm just a day late and a dollar short again..;-)

Glad you got it figured out. I now use "Should I Answer" app. It doesn't allow blocked numbers to get to voicemail. If you block a number, your phone basically picks-up/hangs-up in a split second.

sounds like a good app. since my N8 is my business device I don't use voice mail. if I did, that would be a great app to use. I quit using voice mail at least 7 years ago so that my clients get me when they call. if they don't get me they know I will call right back. that said, I do all my work via email and remote connection. I have phones merely as a convenience for my clients, just in case.

I experimented with Bixby yesterday and tried to use it like Google Now. I was driving into Boston, so I pressed the Bixby Button and said "Hello Bixby, I am driving right now - can you direct me in to Massachusetts General Hospital?" After about 7 or 8 seconds, I get "O.K., here's what I found - I glance at the phone and there's about 5 web link's for me to click or articles for me to read. I guess "I am driving right now" DID NOT COMPUTE! I pressed the Home Button and said "O.K. Google" got "Hi Jim, how can I help" I said "Can you direct me in to Massachusetts General Hospital?" The Map App was up and running, directing me in within 15 seconds with no further input from me! Bixby - duh!

Yeah, I have now completely disabled Bixby. Useless. I haven't remapped the button yet as I hear Sammy keeps taking back control with updates. But I might grab one of those button remap apps and give it a go.

Um, your doing it wrong. Press and hold the Bixby button and say "Navigate to Massachusetts General Hospital"

It opens up Google Maps, searches for my destination and plots a course.

Hmmm... I knew about holding the button - I did! I just installed BK Package Disabler and disabled it... maybe if I get ambitious tomorrow, I'll re-enable it and give it a try! Thanks for the tip!

10/6/17 - SO Deke218 - I re-enabled Bixby and remapped the button, tried your tip. Voila' - you are correct Sir! Thank you very much and I'm sorry Bixby for the "Duh" comment! It was "I" that deserved the Duh! As my Portuguese Grandmother used to say to me all the time when I was an impatient kid (I guess not much has changed in 60 something years), aye paciencia' Jimmy, paciencia'!

Is there a way go get Bixby or Google Assistant to use Waze when they give you the directions?

if you can set Waze as your default you should be able to. not sure how. I use Waze too. Maps has way too many popups for reviews and you're here and crud I don't want distracting me while driving. miss my garmin.
