Thinking about getting a Gear S2 platinum...

I love how the platinum looks, and I think it would be very useful for me. I've never owned a smartwatch either so I'm pretty excited for it.

Just one question though, obviously these smartwatches are expensive. So I'm wondering about the battery. I couldn't seem to find this anywhere, but is it at all possible to replace it? I'm just worried about buying this and then having to replace it in a year or two due to the battery going bad. I'd really like this to last quite a few years, but with the way technology works today I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't work out.

you can buy a warranty from Square Trade pretty cheaply. I got one for my S2 Classic for $35. I would assume the battery would last though. I had the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, and neither had any issues.


Edit to add - go ahead and get the S2, you won't regret it. I love mine

These types of batteries typically last about a thousand charge cycles. If you fully drain it every day count on about a thousand days before a discernible drop in battery life (no longer makes it through the day) that drops off quickly. If you don't drain it fully every day count on it lasting longer. With Samsung though, they have a reputation of abandoning devices long before they go bad so though the battery will last for years your watch will not receive updates as long.

Smart watches are going to be like smart phones, they will be out dated in 2 years. You could stretch it usefulness to 3 or 4 years but you will want the latest tech, so you will be throwing the watch away and getting a new one.

It will definitely feel weird having to replace a watch every few years since I have watches that have lasted forever. But I think it'll be worth it, I think I'll get one in a month or 2. Can't wait.

What I meant to say is don't worry about the battery, since you'll be replacing the watch in 2 or 3 years. Also, I'm not sure if the platinum comes in a 3G version, so it will be Bluetooth only, which is not a bad thing. The Bluetooth version is 2mm thinner. The platinum does look nice.

But it's no longer just a watch you'll be wearing.
A notification butler that shows the time on a customized watch face will grow boring quickly. It's when you begin to use it to its potential that it will become more than just a fancy watch.
When I was using a Gear Fit it was really no big deal if I left it at home since I wasn't a watch wearer and hadn't been since phones started showing the time on them. It was when I got the Gear S 1 that I began to become hooked on a mini pda on my wrist. Granted I am not one that feels the need to upgrade devices when THE next big thing releases but when my S inevitably wears out I don't see myself going back to using my phone only anymore. For many tasks I used to depend on my phone for I now use my smartwatch and have added it to the mental checklist before leaving home each morning (wallet, keys, watch , phone though it's now expendable).
