I know the whole argument between Mac and PC. I'm not going to get into that here.

My suggestion would be this:

Pick up a cheap older desktop pc, and use that for phone programming. Heck, use it as a second pc even! Here is an example of what I am talking about:
Gateway E4000 Desktop with Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz, 512MB DDR, 40GB, CD-ROM, Windows XP Professional at 3B Tech - Buy computer parts, notebooks, desktops, & home electronics

I am not avocating that EXACT pc or company, just making an example about what is out there. I have seen desktop pc's such as the one in the link above complete with keyboard, mouse and speakers for $69.99. Add your own monitor, and you have a system.

Just throwing out an idea for those people frustrated with not being able to use their mac.

Good luck :)

Virtualbox wouldn't work?

I use it quite a bit for various things. I have virtual systems set up with Linux, XP and MacOS, all running on Win7.

I don't know anything about mac systems. I'm sure dual booting would work just fine. I have run bootable linux from DVD before on my pc, so I know such things exist.

I was just making a suggestion for those people who do not want to mess around with their macs. A whole pc system can be found for less than $100 if a person searches a little bit. I know plenty of people with old 14"-17" crt monitors just sitting in their closets because they got a flat panel. Most of them would be more than happy to let them go for $10 or so. Garage sales are another good source for older pc parts.

I don't believe VM Ware or Parallels works well with Odin... Dual boot is the way to go, if you don't want a separate PC around

Yep, there are many ways to get it done. I was just thinking to myself that if I could get a decent mac system for $100, I'd be all over it. I like to learn new things, and my first mac would be fun I think. Thats why I thought of the idea for mac users to pick up a cheap pc.

I was a PC guy to start, used to HATE macs. Still have a nice desktop around, but my old 13 in macbook I got for college 3 years ago has pretty much taken over. They're just so....perfect. I even dual booted my mac to use Odin. Works perfectly. However, when using VM Fusion, Odin will not pick up the phone in download mode. Very minor inconvenience.

I agree with piersol that a cheap PC would be nice, but imo, unnecessary for Mac users.

Oh, ok. I do remember having trouble getting iTunes running in an XP Virtual machine to recognize my old iPhone in DFU (download) mode, but I did get it to work. I refuse to put that abomination that is iTunes on any real computer I own.

Funny, I dislike virtually everything about the MacOS. I find the UI frustratingly inefficient and unintuitive, and anything but user friendly if/when things go wrong and need to be repaired.

To each his own ;). Curious though, how much do you use a Mac?

As little as possible, but working in computer graphics, they're occasionally tough to avoid. I just find that form always comes ahead of function with Apple, and they dumb-down the interface a little too much in the quest for supposed user-friendliness. It might make their computers more user friendly for the elderly and/or technophobic, but for someone who doesn't mind a little complexity, I always feel like I have one hand tied behind my back.

I don't care about 32bit icons with alpha channels and nice soft drop shadows, I don't care about animated docks with little programs that jump up and down saying "look at me, look at me". To me, all that stuff just gets in the way of actually getting work done.

But like you said, to each their own.

Exactly why I talked my Dad and brother into getting a Mac ;) haha.

Being fluent in both PC and Macs, I've come prefer Macs. But thats probably because they are much easier to manage in a lab environment.

Ok I'll stop ranting.

I'll throw this out there as well, if anyone needs help dual booting a mac, feel free to contact me.
