Thinking of getting a s4, I have questions

First, I had an s3. How does it compare? How is battery life? What is the camera like in comparison to the s3? I also see that the s4 is getting a software update. I've seen quit a bit of posts regarding bugs in the update. Does this make the phone intolerable? Any input would be appreciated.

Why not Galaxy S5 ?

Galaxy S4 is decent but now GS5 is already announced and about to launch.

Battery Life : This depends on your model tbh , I have seen some people who are getting awesome battery life after latest updates while others reporting worse battery life.

Screen-time - 4 hours on about 80% brightness
5-6 hours on low-to-medium brightness

Standby around 20% battery for 24 hours with Wifi-On

Camera - Awesome camera but it doesn't have good stabilization

Do these updates make phone intolerable ?
For me 4.2.x is piece of sh** when I first bought Galaxy S4 , it was unfinished software.Then I got like 6 Over-the-Air updates as soon as i connected to Wifi for first time.
Those updates made the phone awesome.I really enjoyed using the device , It had awesome battery life.Then after 4.3 , standby time is drastically reduced when Wifi is On.There were some bugs which got solved with some updates which got rolled out within a month or two.

I hesitated to get 4.4 update after 4.3 disappointed me , but I went ahead.My phone has become awesome again.Battery life is just phenomenal ever since the update.Even if Wifi is ON , stand-by is hugely improved and notifications are coming normally etc.
No bugs that I know of.I think this update is one of those perfect updates.

Currently using S4 i9505 since June 2013 and it's awesome. I was disappointed after the release of S5 because almost nothing has changed with it. Yea the camera is good and all but i think that's the only highlight for me in the S5. Battery life is great after the 4.4.2 update.
