Hi everyone! I'm a currently blackberry owner (Bold 9650). Been using blackberry's for about 2 years now. Thinking of making the switch to android since I worked blackberry support for a year and a half and want something new and to learn all I can about this platform. I'm on Sprint so currently looking at the EVO Shift as I loved physical keyboards. Still thinking about it though, but leaning more towards getting the phone :).

Hi, Obmutescence.
Welcome to the forums...

This link will help you with the transition from bb to android.

I've read it already but thanks :). Just put my contacts on gmail an hour ago lol...guess I'm closer to making my decision.

I'm making the same switch. VZW 9630 to Bionic. Seems like a good move considering how behind far RIM is right now. I'll check them back out in 2013 and see how the Storm 4 is doing.

Yea I've always thought I'd be content with what RIM was providing for phones, but suddenly last week I just had the urge to want something more out of my phone. Haha, Storm 4! Hopefully they'll have QNX on the phones by then! I really like how android seems to be a lot more customizable than the blackberry OS. Doesn't the Bionic come out soon? February if I remember correctly..

I'm reading April for the Bionic. Looks like a great device.

After CES, I decided to leave BlackBerry. I was waiting for the Storm 3. But it's going to be released in September with OS6, and that's just not worth paying $200 and signing a new 2 year contract imo.

I like Google products and the Android phones look like they do a lot.

As a former bb owner, I will tell you android is far superior in every way except email exchange servers. You won't regret the switch.

I just moved to a Droid 2 Global from a Blackberry 8830. I needed something that would I could use when traveling. The wife has a Droid and is looking at an iPhone, but I didn't want one as it wold let me do what I needed.

As in BES? If so, no worries for me. I have one gmail account and Android users are telling me email is instant using gmail.

Is there a Google Voice app or widget?

Oh jeez, that's some patience you have! I actually waited for my Bold for like 7 months so I know how it is to wait for a phone! Yea I don't think the Storm 3 will even be that great, they really need to change how they do touch screen phones. I already use gmail and gtalk so this'll be an easy switch. :)

..I'm on Sprint so currently looking at the EVO Shift as I loved physical keyboards...

My first Android phone was the T-Mobile G1, which I purchased about 2 years ago. One of the reason I decided against the iPhone in favor of the G1 was the physical keyboard. I know many Blackberry owners think the same way about keyboards.
Today, had I been with Sprint, I would have gone with the EVO, not the Shift. The reason is that for me the 4.3 inch screen is much more important; the keyboard with the large screens is no longer an issue.
Since T-Mobile doesn't have any 4.3 display, I am switching to Verizon, most likely to the Thunderbolt, as I like HTC machines.

Looks like you can get the app just from m.google.com/voice according to google's site. Not sure about a widget.

Yea I see what you mean, but my preferences go towards the Shift. I'm not one to care at all about screen size coming from a blackberry.

Got my Shift tonight, activated it and have messed around with it for about an hour and a half to an hour. Definitely a completely different feel, and I suck with this touch screen so much. Hoping I get used to this fast! I am loving how fast it is though!

I thought I'd be happy waiting for the next better BlackBerry as well (the 9650 wasn't that much of a difference to justify the price). It wasn't that I was unhappy with my Tour, but when the opportunity came to upgrade to the Mesmerize for free, I jumped on it.

Since switching to Android, I haven't looked back. Even though there are a couple of things I miss from BB, the benefits from switching outweigh everything else. You'll love the change.

try the swype open beta, I did the same (coming from a bb) thought I would need the keyboard but only used it once) loving the swype thing, very cool
