"This app is causing your device to run slowly" regarding google's Photos app

[AC Question]

I get this error message but can't figure out how to "turn off auto open for th..." That's what I see on my phone. If I click on the message to try to read the rest of it, it goes away. I've tried to turn something off in the applications manager, but turning off auto open is not an option. I'm afraid to clear the data cache because of the dire "you'll permanently delete everything" message. I don't want to uninstall for the same reason.

Google Photos is a sluggish bloated piece of crap that requires cell/wifi service to show thumbnails for images already stored on the device. I switched to QuickPic.
