This article says it all about OS updates

I understand some get the update and have no issues, but according to the forums your the lucky ones. I also did a cache wipe, after I was still having issues I deleted and reinstalled the app having issues, what happened after that, those apps worked, then another app starting acting up that was working fine, so that's when I decided a FDR was needed.

Just allow us to choose to update the OS, and give option to go back if there are issues. It's that simple

In developer options, I found this option. Will this prevent the new OS from being installed on your phone.

Yes, this will prevent any system update. I always have this switched to off so I can decide when to D/L and install. Sometimes it's best to wait and see what others are having for issues before jumping right in.

Thank you for answering the question, you were the first person that knew the answer. I greatly appreciate it.

I'm not so sure about that as that setting has been turned off on my N8 since day one in mid September and I get notified of every update, as in it's already downloaded and ready to install, WITHOUT my permission.

Hmm, not sure what's going on there. Hasn't been a problem for me over the years. Multiple devices. However, none we're Samsung or Nokia,
HTC and Google phones and no issues.

It's about time consumers get the right to refuse updates on their working phone.
Software developers don't want to have to support the previous 5 versions of the software, because a few people are still insistent on using 5.0.0. Plus, you still lack all the security updates. (They'd have to issue 5 security updates for every security patch - for each model phone. That's a lot of work for a manufacturer supporting 5 or 10 models, not to mention Samsung, which maintains about 30 individual ROMS for each of some of the flagship phones - so they'd have to do rewrites on not just 90 updates but 5 times 90 updates for each security patch. You'd get 9.0 in about 2025.)

Some software houses simply refuse to give you any software support at all if you're not running the current version. At best, any time you call about a bug in the last version (and they know that you refuse to update - they keep pretty good records, after all, database front ends are fun and trivial) they say "oh, that was fixed in the current version". Since you won't upgrade, they know you'll never know that they're lying.

Having to do a FDR for an update? I've never had to do that. Not once. And I still have my MicroTAC, so I've been using cellphones for a while. (Not that the MicroTAC ever got a software update.)

I have only had to do a factory reset after an OS update once since I've been using android, that was because I left a different theme on when I updated and the theme couldn't handle the update.

The only problem I have since Oreo is the random occasion when my ringtone continues to play after answering a call. I'll figure that out. So far I know it's only when I'm in the office and one specific caller.

I wonder how many Samsung users had apps disabled and updated without enabling them.
I enabled all of mine and used the default theme.

If I remember correctly package disabler pro recommended enabling them before updates.

Many people have switched to BK disabler, I don't know if they recommend enabling.

I've used both Android and iOS and it's not just Android that needs FDR's on occasion. iPhones are certainly not immune to updates. Updates always come with a certain amount of risk for borking. Small risk but still a risk.

I know I disable some things but I never have these problems a I don't know why. I feel bad for all the people having a lot of problems. Both my Note 8 and S9+ seems to run very smoothly. It concerns me because I wonder if I early am having problems bit have become blind/numb to them. What do I know?

Sheesh, I thanked them. That's all that needed to be said here. Carry on
Yes thanked him and jumped on the community for not answering you as if they were doing it to be rude (a.k.a "ignoring" you).

Just saying .. I don't like people jumping on others for responding but not in a way they want.

Good, think enough has been said.

Didn't say I was listening. I don't like it when people assume things.
Ah well sorry for having you think that. I can only go on what you say..and you assumed people were ignoring you.. so odd you are cool with assuming but not for others :D.

Attention... I would like to take a moment to say I am sorry for assuming and jumping on everyone for not answering my question above. It was not my intention to offend anyone. I used a poor choice of wording, for that I apologize. I was just wanting to thank the person for answering my question and used poor choice of wording. I am forever grateful that my mistake was pointed out so I could correct it. I have corrected my original post.

You could find a dozen different opinions and articles on that subject. If ppl could refuse the updates they be pissed off about apps not working anymore as their software would be obsolete. FDR doesn't take very long at all anymore. Maybe loosen that schedule up a smidge.
I have had zero issues with my phone after the update. I did the FDR out of habit.
