This Camera is the bomb

Using the Pixel 2 XL, I find that it is more than adequate for my walkabout shots. But I still pull out my DSLR for my wide angle shots or BIF.
I haven't taken the time to see how the Pixel files hold up to PP, especially for low light.

I'm fortunate to be old. Sure, the Pixel camera can't do what a 600mm lens can do but then neither could my first camera, a 2.25 twin lens relfex.

If I were into birds I wouldn't use my camera but I'm looking forward to the focus feature that locks on a subject--dog, child, otter, whatever--and holds the focus and the subject moves. That would be great for my nephews soccer games.

For wide-angle I use panorama. I'm using the new zoom feature on my Pixel 2 while I wait for my Pixel 3 with hi-rez zoom but even on the Pixel 2 it isn't bad.

I do minimal processing but I like being able to shoot RAW is I choose.

Old photographers are used to adapting shooting to the limitations of equipment.

I still like my DSLR. I bought enough glass to prevent a move to mirrorless, and I enjoy taking RAW photos into Lightroom and Photoshop. For me, the big difference is the frequency I need my DSLR is down considerably. I prefer it for landscape photos (when I have my "stuff"), and I still think I get better photographs of sports, and portraits. The thing is, we are printing less and less, and sharing on a screen more and more. The Pixel camera does a great job for that purpose. More and more the old saying is true, the best camera is the one you have with you.

I have a similar story. I paid thousands for lens/cameras/bags/filters/tripods etc. Now they just sit and its all thanks to the P2XL. It produced the best photos form any smartphone I owned at the time (Android & iPhone).

I agree that the quality is outstanding, and it makes a lot of hard shots much easier to take, but in no way can it substitute for my Sony A7R3 and some good lenses. The huge lens distortion really bothers me. The photos look great if you don't look too close, but when you do they really fall apart. Don't get me wrong - the quality is truly spectacular for the vast majority of people, You'll have to pry my Sony out of my cold dead hands. The Pixel could never match this quality (I am NOT a pro):

are these from your Sony or Pixel?

OK, I was like wow who needs dslr if the pixel can take pictures like that.

Yeah I had a Sony mirrorless camera also, but end up selling it since it sat on the sheld for 2 years. Phone camera just more convenient, as they say the best camera is the one you have with you. I just don't like carry around all the extra stuff just for taking pictures I post on Facebook. Haha.

Of course there's a difference but there's also a huge difference in size and it's only practical for certain events. What mount is that Sony?

FE

These photos were taken with the Sony FE 24–105 mm F4 G OSS.

I really hope a number of people are complaining to Google about the quality of the audio recording...as it's going to take a lot of negative feedback for them to fix something they don't even see as a problem.

Heh, they haven't fixed the hissing in the pixel or the pixel 2, so I'm doubtful anything will change now. Remember the Constant auto focusing on the Nexus 6 videos. That was never addressed either.

I'm also less optimistic about them fixing the "tinny" sound of the audio recording as well...particularly since they described it as a feature. Holding out hope though. Otherwise, it will be at least Pixel 4 until I potentially make the switch.

I see people complaining about the audio on the pixel 2. I never had that issue. I would record at loud concerts and the sound would be crisp. So weird.

So far, I'm not getting as bad results as the reviewers are with the pixel 3. But I'm am Instagram story type of guy so, it's not really that high res anyway.

So are you not noticing a "tinny" sound like many of the reviewers such as Supersaf have demonstrated on the 3?

The hissing is only heard in quiet surroundings. It's in the background and ruins any ambient sounds. Here's another video showing the poor audio quality of pixel 3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0COrqmuoVt4

Check out my stories on IG

@JeremiahBonds

I posted some with sound. Maybe you'll hear a tinny sound, but mine doesn't necessarily sound like Saf's
