This is ridiculous Verizon!

It's not a generational step up from HSPA. It's basically a software update. LTE and WiMAX are distinctly different from EVDO and HSPA. They're new technologies. AT&T and T-Mobile have bastardized 4G branding by labeling something that isn't 4G as being 4G. Network speeds on HSPA+ are not dramatically different either. Maximum bandwidth is not a valid indicator of network performance or something that naming should be based off of.

Coming this fall: AT&T 5G LTE!

Who says what is considered 4g? Last time I checked all of the big 4 and even MetroPCS have 4g. ITU says it counts as 4g HSPA+ is officially 4g.

Also I live in a T-Mobile 42mbs down city. So eventually when 42mbs compatible phones come out we'll be blazing. :)

That's the definition of trolling.

Please read the trolling rule and how to respond to those who you believe are trolling.

No sir. This leads me to my next question when do you think Verizon will get a Nexus device or AOSP Device either one?

Probably when I'm dead in a grave :/

Everyone: debate debate debate.. but filter out the name calling and personal attacks for gods sake. I'm trying to root my phone and don't Cheers. ;)

I hope not I'd love to have a nexus on Verizon that isn't just a Verizon Nexus S. Come on Big V I know your bugfixing LTE but give us some love! ~And Cheers :)~

Can't believe I'm this late to the party. Yes Verizon's equipment is the worst. Next year we will get a full lineup of dual cores while the rest of the carriers are on Quad Cores.

Verizon is the worst when it comes to equipment no doubt.

MetroPCS and Verizon have LTE. Sprint has WiMax. The rest don't have 4G. The ITU retroactively caved to pressure by the carriers and made 3G tech (not even the 3.9G which LTE and WiMAX pretty much are) into 4G standards.

LTE and WiMAX are true 4G. HSPA+ is only a stopgap measure; why would AT&T be building an LTE network otherwise? If HSPA+ is actually a generational leap, why don't they just stick with that.

Oh yeah, because it isn't a generational leap. It's a glorified software upgrade that increases maximum bandwidth and does nothing to latency or any other crucial factors in network quality.

Just because I have a Gigabit switch in my house doesn't mean that I will ever attain anywhere close to Gigabit speeds. You're confusing critical aspects of how networks work. The 42Mpbs figure is entirely theoretical and only refers to maximum bandwidth.

I will say this please stop bringing Networks up, and all big 4 carries have 4g this is a handset discussion.

Also i'm hopeful that its just not a figure and the enhance our data speeds. And they call me negative ;)

I think give it at least 5 more months and the network will be silky smooth. And Verizon can focus solely on handsets.

The fact is that you can't debate on the subject. They don't have 4G, no matter what you, or the carriers claim. There is no generational leap between HSPA and HSPA+. Network support is integral to how handsets perform. Why use a mobile phone without a network?

Don't make claims that you can't back up. You said that Verizon didn't have any phones that were on the bleeding edge, but when I started talking about why networks matter, you told me not to talk about networks.

If you're going to make threads like this, you need to know your stuff.

Please like I said stay on topic. I don't want my thread to be closed. By bleeding edge I meant latest tech possible. We know its impossible to catch up with technology in this day and age.

Just stop already. This thread isn't about the network its about the phones.

It is possible, but only on open networks. One of the major drawbacks to being on Verizon in the current mobile landscape is the fact that CDMA is required for voice and LTE-only phones aren't on the market yet. Once everything starts going LTE, Verizon should be in the clear, along with AT&T (and possibly an acquired T-Mobile).

I wish that Verizon could come out with an HTC dual-core phone like the Sensation or EVO 3D with LTE, but that won't happen for a while. I'm getting a bolt in the meantime between now and the Targa/Bionic launch.

It is when the reasoning behind the lack of "bleeding edge" technical phones is the simple fact that the first gen LTE radios won't fit in the form factors of the phones that INK mentioned. I've said it about 3 times already.

Is Targa the bionics replacement?
The Bionic was originally codenamed Etna and the Targa is now the replacement for Etna. The Bionic name will be applied at retail to whichever phone comes out (it's looking like the Targa at this point).

The Etna was the original Bionic with specs similar to the Atrix without WebTop and with 512MB less RAM. The screen size was also .3" larger than the Atrix.

The Targa is a different device with a rumored OMAP 4 processor (probably the 4440) and specs that are similar to the Etna in most other respects. It also looks slimmer than Etna from the renders.

Does anyone know when gen 2 LTE chips will be available to manufacturers?

Ah isn't that a good thing?
IMO, yes. I'm a fan of OMAP chips. I wasn't too keen on getting a Tegra 2 powered phone as it is a year-old chip. I also had a very good experience with the OMAP chip in the OG Droid, so I am looking forward to getting away from the very hot Snapdragon chips. Also, if the form factor is slimmer, that is always a plus.

I just hope that they somehow get a second generation LTE chip in there somehow. I don't know when they're coming to market.

Good question. I think once some of the MFG's decide on a chipset that will work more efficiently with the LTE radios, then you will start seeing some dual cores hitting VZW. Better late than never I guess. Like I said before, yeah, T-mob, Sprint and AT&T may have better spec'ed phones, but if you look at the majority of folks that buy Android phones (and not the geeks that visit this site :D), they couldn't care about that. You know what they care about? The freakin' network they use. Does it make calls? Surf the 'net? Send text messages? Download apps? Damn, I hate being a geek sometimes...

I forgot, we have the iPhone now. We don't need the hottest Android handsets. My bad........
