It's not a generational step up from HSPA. It's basically a software update. LTE and WiMAX are distinctly different from EVDO and HSPA. They're new technologies. AT&T and T-Mobile have bastardized 4G branding by labeling something that isn't 4G as being 4G. Network speeds on HSPA+ are not dramatically different either. Maximum bandwidth is not a valid indicator of network performance or something that naming should be based off of.

Who says what is considered 4g? Last time I checked all of the big 4 and even MetroPCS have 4g. ITU says it counts as 4g HSPA+ is officially 4g.
Also I live in a T-Mobile 42mbs down city. So eventually when 42mbs compatible phones come out we'll be blazing.
