Yes but we will all surely die without it.......just like we did before the S3, DNA, Note2, Bionic, and on and on.
Very similar to updates; Ginger Bread was the end all, it was going to lead us down a path to world peace. Ice Cream Sandwich you say? Well that was God on a Stick. And as for Jelly Bean, I hear in some places you can't even say the words. Key Lime Pie? I hear it contains microscopic dust from the Cullinan Diamond and a sliver from the actual crucifixion cross (I heard also it contains the sweat of Sophia Vergara but that sounds a little too far fetched to me). Speaking of my Bionic on ICS (at one time the love of my life), I wonder what my 5 year old daughter ever did with that thing?

I get that some people are in a hurry, and don't begrudge the OP for his rush.
But me personally? One month of life burs into the next. Phones I've had in the past were crappier than phones availabe now, and my quality of life was nevertheless okay. The phone I get next year will be crappy compared to the phone I get a few years later, and my quality of life will nevertheless be okay. I'm not going to look back from my deathbed and fret about which phone I had during which month of my life.
