This keyboard is killing me

I use iPhone and android i will say i prefer the iPhone keyboard i mess up way less, but i wish they had the # row up top.
On my androids I use Swiftkey and i like it alot more than the stock keyboards.

I 100% agree with the OP. I have used iPhones off and on since the iPhone 3GS. Everytime I come back to Android I have a horrible time with the keyboard. I am currently using Swiftkey and I'm still having tons of trouble. I think after I type this I'm going to down load Gboard and give that a shot. For me its a burden to have to type anything because of this! Not what I want from a $960 phone!!!

You know iPhones key lay out is different for stock keyboard. You can also change the way it displays keys to make the transaction easier .I recently had the 7+ so I remember the fustruction

Hope you have better luck with Gboard, I haven't been so lucky with either Swiftkey or Gboard. All I want from a keyboard is to be able to type FAST AND ACCURATE. I could care less about customization when I have mistakes in every sentence I type.

I think there is a huge opportunity out there for a Android keyboard that excels in accuracy
when typing.

Love everything else about Android! and for sure a First World problem :)

That's why I switched. Because I had options,. I just didn't know how to use them. . And so far I have typed this as fast as my fingers will move and only backspaced onced. This is so much better.

Glad you're sticking with it! :). It is a learning curve to see what apps / launchers / keyboards / etc. you like but once you get it down... It is awesome :P.

I felt the same way for years...
Until I tried G Board. Never looked back.
Gboard doesn't learn my typing patterns the way Swiftkey does. it never learned anything I input, not words, sentences, etc.

Swiftkey got it all from day one. I did give Gboard a shot for a month or two though. so glad to be back to Swiftkey.

Just downed SwiftKey again and am typing this reply with it. I must admit it is MUCH faster and the text prediction is better than G Board. I think I'll stick to this for a while.

My main issue with Gboard is how close the letter L is to the backspace bar. Inevitably I hit one by accident and it drives me nuts!

I used Gboard for a few weeks but never got the performance from it that swiftkey gives me. I just thought it was because I've used swiftkey for years and it has saved all my typing patterns.

I really think the fact we have choices is the best feature of all.

Yes you are. You're not downloading G Board or SwiftKey :)

Now I use Swiftkey but you cannot do the live message (on the Note 8) unless you are using the stock keyboard. I hate the stock keyboard because I like the number row above and the arrow keys under the keyboard. It makes it so much easier to go back and do corrections which I have to do a lot but the blinking cursor I cannot stand I can't ever get it to go between letters to correct a word so that is why I like Swiftkey, you can also change the size of the keyboard with it.

One thing I wish they would do is make a keyboard with a full page editor so you can choose it to see the whole thing you have typed instead of just getting to read a line or 2 when you go back to proofread and that's another reason I like the arrow keys on Swiftkey because you can go up or down or left or right

Since my last post (like I said I would) I downloaded Gboard. It does seem to work a lot better for me. I've only used it for a handful of text messages and a couple emails and it is a little early to fully confirm this but I like it, it seems better than the stock keyboard by far and better than Swiftkey. For me I don't care about the text prediction. I appreciate spell check and like double tapping the spacebar for a period. That's about all I care about.

Interesting. I cant stand the iPhone keyboard. When Apple finally let alternate keyboards be be installed, I installed Swiftkey so fast because the amount of corrections I needed to do with that keyboard made me hate typing. Even then, Swiftkey on iOS still wasn't as nice for me as it is on Android. I think it's what you are used to an it takes time to just get used to it. However, I've had both iPhone and Android for almost a decade now and I just cant get used to iOS keyboard.

Gboard is my favorite also. And it gets better as you use it.

I downloaded and tried GBoard and it looked too much like the Samsung Keyboard so I guess I just won't be able to use the Live Messaging unless I can find a keyboard that will look like Swiftkey and add the live messaging key...LOL

I'm obviously missing something because I don't understand the issue between the keyboard and live messaging. I'm using SwiftKey and can still send live messages via text.

Well, I can't find the little live message icon on the swiftkey keyboard so where is it?

I am an iPhone convert, I am trying to get used to this phone, I really want to live it, but my biggest problem so far is this keyboard. My fingers are not that fat. But I can't type without having to erase and retype 4 or 5 times even in a short text message. It's almost bad enough to go back to my old 6 plus. Am I doing something wrong.

Use the SPen, that's what it's there for... once you get used to using the Spen & swiping you'll never go back- give yourself a little time to adjust to the change, you'll be happy you did!! Gboard is also a good keyboard suggestion.
