This Or Galaxy Nexus?

I purchased the galaxy nexus at full retail in Feb, knowing my upgrade was in May, my phone at the time was Droid X. The nexus is a nice phone especially if you are lucky and get one without problems. But I pre order the s3 the specs is better than the nexus. 2gb of ram is crazy, the pictures I've seen from the s3 camera was great. Better than the nexus, now the stock ice cream and on screen buttons on the nexus I will miss. But the s3 is the better phone with everything else!!!! If you going to spend money on a phone always get the best and newest phone. The nexus was the best android in Feb and now the s3 is the best android out. Better than HTC One X. Even though vzw won't have HTC One X

Samsung Galaxy S III initial benchmarks and hands-on impressions | MobileSyrup.com

This is a pretty good review of the version Canada got which also has dual core and lte.

I saw that video of the benchmark too.Im not sure how much faith I have in Quad. Benchmarks tho .
I do think the SGSIII will be a great device that's why I ordered one ,,but also think the Galaxy Nexus is a great device (got mine on launch day too)and has served me flawlessly.
Hopefully the SGSIII will serve me as dependable as the GN has been. The GN has been my only Samsung device til I purchased the SGSIII not sure how I will like touchwiz but I can always install Nova Prime on it for my launcher.
I also hope this phone has alot of developer support although it may be a little slower out of the gate I expect/hope there will be quite a few custom Roms to pick from for this device.:)

I do like the fact that the SGSIII has an sd card which I will also have along with my 32gb of onboard memory .I wish the GN had an sd card that has been my only complaint about the GN (no sd card )

I am sure it will have lots of roms and quickly once its released. The sgs2 had a ton of support

I have a Nexus almost since release. Wife is now eligible for an upgrade, decided on S3 for her. For same price S3 offers more and don't see what is given up.

Re: This Or Galaxy Nexus?????

To put it simply vanilla android will always be more compatible and quicker to update because with overlays come changed APIs. That being said if you don't like touchwiz, sense or otherwise simply change the launcher and be done...

Re: This Or Galaxy Nexus?????

I wonder if Samsung gave the Google Nexus crappy hardware so they could save the good stuff for there Galaxy SIII?

Gnex has been around for too long, its what 6 months since the release date? Everything high end is outdated in 3 months so double that and that's where the GS3 comes in... next Nexus will be on par with whatever the lead device is at the time of its release...

The nexus line was never really cutting edge tech so it makes sense that the galaxy nexus didn't really have any groundbreaking features. You have to remember it was meant as a developer phone to test apps out on. The sgs2 was better than the nexus s and the s3 is better than the nexus. It makes sense Samsung wants top of the line specs in their galaxy line since it is "their phone" and not google's.

Front of the Nexus is quite a step up compared to the s3 imo

If you only care about looks then Nexus is the winner. But I want some brains to go with a pretty face.

I disagree that the Nexus looks better than the GSIII. I've always thought the GN looks kinda plain.

I'm giving my Nexus to my girlfriend and buying an S3. I like the software tweaks of the S3 along with BT4.0 and other small upgrades. Plus it looks better and will have way more accessory support.

I was really excited to upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus earlier this month. I love the on screen buttons and beautiful screen. I think they got the design right, it's very slick but not obnoxious given its size. Stock ICS lives up to the hype and is better than any skin out there. The Nexus handles games super smooth, too! I thought to myself, "Finally!"
Even though it's a great phone, I returned it after 2 weeks and I'm going with the GSIII.
The Nexus is great, but the camera and battery life left something to be desired. I knew about these "issues" when I bought it, but the GSIII should address these issues with a larger battery and improved camera.
With these improvements come a home button and menu buttons I could live without! At the same time, I'm looking forward to more screen real estate for games and apps because in my experience, the on screen buttons only completely disappear during movies.

I hope this post helps you with your questions! I'm not bashing the Nexus. In fact, when I bought it I figured the GSIII would be $300 and out of my price range. When I saw $200 that helped make my decision a lot easier.

The nexus camera was really poor, I was disappointed because after everything they showed off once I had the nexus in hand and saw how poor the pictures were I was like wow. It seems they left many things to be desired out of the nexus and it seems with the s3 those things are back in. I like the camera since it uses a similar sensor to the iphone 4s which takes great pictures, and they also had a stock battery size that other than the maxx and note, you just don't get standard batteries that size and we all know a larger battery is welcome with phones these days.

Ehh. I love my nexus. Its a great phone. I didn't read the op , if u have a GSM carrier I'd buy the nexus from Google. Just because of the updates. There are already talks about the next android os. It may take the gs3 a year to get it. While it will come to the nexus first . The cam is good for me. If you tap the screen and let the box turn green , the pictures come out really well. They both are great phones so there isn't a wrong choice.

Re: This Or Galaxy Nexus?????

Same debate here.

Bought a GNex on launch day and have had no problems with it at all as far as hardware issues or lockups. Got all the updates on time (now on 4.0.4). Love stock Android and really like the ICS improvements over GB, esp with the gmail/calendar/contact integration. However, the battery life is really a bummer for me. I can't make it through a full day (9am to midnight) under light to moderate use without a charge, even with the extended battery. I don't do anything special (and work 10 to 5 so standby during this time) and I still have to plug in around 8 or 9pm. UGH.

Also, the camera is pretty bad, even with 3rd party software. Disappointing for sure compared to all the "reveals" before the phone came out.

Finally, I can't hear my darn phone ring. And the speaker volume is lousy. Talk about essential features that GNex is really bad at.

So I am most likely giving my GNex to my DD and getting the S3 for me. We'll see which one wins on the battery and camera front once the hype dies down and the day to day use sets in. Lucky for me, if the S3 isn't working to my liking -- well, DD gets that one instead and I keep the GNex. ;) Because that's the power of mom the boss...

Thats odd I can make it tho a day with Moderate use (4am-11pm) stock battery.Thats with emails, sms, forum surfing,etc..During work time not on for extended periods at a time during working hours.Working hours are from 5am til 300 pm.

It can be loud out in the shop but can still hear phone ring I had a third party ring tone sound set (from the zedge app).I can hear my phone conversations just fine ,the dx had the lowest volume as far as hearing the phone conversation of any phone I had .

The camera works ok for me as the pictures I take, compaired with any other pictures from any smartphone I have owned they seem about the same in those regards.I never have expected phone cameras to compair with just a mid priced 10mm camera tho, quality wise .

I think this phone(SGSIII) will have more accessories.
I am interested in compairing these phones head to head when I get mine tho, such as any improvements in radio reception (even tho GN isnt bad),.
I expect the battery life to be even better with that big battery.
Interested in how much TW uses out of the 2GB of Ram( I heard on AC podcast it would be alot) ,although I will probably root and flash a custom Rom before too long after getting it so that will get rid of TW .
I will probably run TW when stock just because I never have used it before ,, even while on stock Rom.I can see myself going to the Nova Prime launcher since used to it.
As far as looks of GSIII I think it looks fine the physical home button doesnt bother me :)
I like the finish ,and the fact the whole back pops off ,also that it has an sdcard slot

It's not odd at all. The proximity of the phone to a tower has a huge effect on the battery life. 5 hours of moderate use with a very weak signal can drain a batt more than 10 hours with a good signal.

Not everyone's mileage is the same.

Katherine do you keep you wifie and bluetooth turned off? They both use up the battery quicker. You need to check what apps you have running during the day.

Hey, I like the look of the Nexus a lot more, personally, but I do like the hardward specs of the GSIII a lot more.

I like the idea of a Nexus Phone, that being said, I wonder how hard the GS3 is to root and put custom ROMS on it. probably once it's officially out and about, we'll see many.

Also, with the removable battery cover, you can buy different covers for it. probably in different textures, too. I would make some and make a bunch of money, if i knew how. i have a red and white cover on my Incredible that I occasionally switch out.

I just gotta decide White or Blue...
