My S4 takes okay shots but all those folks saying its amazing have really low standards, IMO. The photos aren't so bad they're embarrassing but they're nothing to write home about, at least not the low-light ones. I say that to say you can only expect so much from these phones. The Lumina 1020 may be an
exception.

Sony XTZ

While I do agree that the HDR on the One is overdone, your pics are super bad and you most likely have a defective sensor.

Definitely defective. You got a bad camera. My HTC one and others on here prove your camera is messed up. Get a replacement.

Like the phone, but camera does seem very underwhelming to me. I believe my S3 camera was better, probably even took better outdoor pics with my old htc desire.

Most of the photos I have taken have been pretty awful, even from a cell camera standpoint.

Videos have been good though.

Sounds like a defective unit tbh. My camera is great. Hope you get it sorted out!

Mine takes decent photos. I can't complain. Nevertheless, I don't expect perfect photos from a phone. It's obvious that you have some defect.

I cannot see the pictures on my work computer, but anyone who thinks the One has the "Worst Camera Ever" obviously never had an original Motorola Droid or MyTouch 3G. Or a Treo 755p. Or a Blackberry Curve anything.

I was reading an article yesterday via blinkfeed that HTC is aware of a software issue causing some issues with the camera that they claim to be fixing in the update this month. With that being said mine has not been having any camera issues yet.

Mine runs just fine.

Only con is the common "purple-tint" around the image in some low-light shots. It's pretty annoying.

Not a deal breaker, though.

Yes. Something is clearly off with those photos. My htc one takes pretty darn good photos. I have taken some really amazing low light photos. It's not the best camera on the market but it's a great all around camera for different situations.

Ummm...

I once had very similar issues with a digital camera which went from taking very good pics to very bad with no explanation.

Until I noticed that someone had touched the lens with a gooey fingertip and left some kind of residue behind. :)

So, bottom line is...clean the lens?

Agreed. Check lens first.
Also, the glow around chimney is most likely due to high compression ratio for JPEG. Have you (inadequately) changed some setting? Have you used digital zoom (if it has it at all)?

I had similar issues with the camera on my first One and htc was happy to replace it with no reservatons what so ever, so, have you contacted yur carrier or HTC yet? If they cant trouble shoot it, they WILL replace it. Even the awesome HTC One still has lemons from time to time, but no phone is exempt to "Lemons". Hope you get it taken care of :-)

Just checking - you *did* remove the protective plastic liner on the lens, right? I could see it degrading over time.
