This seem normal for battery life?

I've been using my phone heavily to browse the Web lately. All via wifi, blue tooth off, power saving mode on.

Getting on average maybe 3 hours on a full charge. Seems like the charge goes down 1 percent a minute while browsing.

Also had it earlier tonight drop from 14 to 3 to 1 percent then instantly shut off, all over the course of maybe 15 seconds. This seem right? Wondering if I should swap it out.

Tried like 3 to 4 battery saving apps and not sure what I think of them. They don't seem to do much in my opinion.

yep..3 hours is right if you are using it without reducing screen brightness etc..
it does drain battery and i think battery saving apps are not that great either...they can assist you perhaps in shutting off wifi when out of range or data when wifi is available things you can do manually...screen brightness i think drains quite a bit..you can perhaps deactivate blink feed which may also drain the battery...

im just waiting to see if there is an improvement after 4.2.2...i will update after a couple of days..

Turn off auto brightness and slap that puppy at about 30-40%. Both auto brightness and/or having it at a high brightness will kill the battery just like saalnaz said.

I agree. I always set the brightness manually. I've yet to see a phone on any platform that handles auto brightness properly. There's always too much throttling for me.

On the One I have set the brightness about 35% and it's great for all conditions. If you are outdoors, go higher and manually turn it down to your preferred level.

Cool thanks guys. I will try manually setting the brightness.

This is absolutely NOT normal. No phone will go from 14% to 5% to 1% and then off in a matter of 15 seconds.

Also, three hours is not right. I use my phone very heavily, and my device lasts me the whole day (about 9hours). Right now, I have had the phone on and in medium use since 8am. It is currently 540pm and I am at half battery life. Medium use today.

You need to get a new battery, and maybe exchange the phone, but a new battery should do it.

Hmm okay. I will go to the AT&T store and see about swapping it out. Is there an easy way to backup all my settings and apps to the new phone? I use the htc manager but I think wireless it's only backing up contacts? Haven't been plugging it into my computer at all.

How's your signal? Screen is one thing LTE is a hungry hungry hippo! If you're in a weak reception area your battery will crash and burn even with low screen brightness.

I know I don't have a HTC One but let me tell you my recent experience.

I had the Motorola Photon 4G until last Monday July 1 when I got the Galaxy S4. The phone was fine, but I started to notice that the battery was draining a little too fast compared to other GS4 and GS3s around me. Also, the smart stay wasn't working.
I did charge and discharged the battery several times and have it time to settle. But at the end it was doing the same thing.

Finally, yesterday night I exchanged it for another GS4. This new one seems to be working properly so far.

I recommend you exchange it if you have tried everything else. Out of millions of phones there's always a few that will have something wrong.

Just my 2 cents.

Where can I get new batteries for my HTC One? I would love to know. Maybe mine is different from yours, but the battery isn't replaceable since it is sealed inside a block of aluminum.

That being said, 3 hours is a very real possibility if you pay attention to how he's using it. Yours lasts all day (9 hours), but are you on the web the entire 9 hours with the screen on? Nope. Even when I'm stretching my battery life to 24+ hours, the screen-on time rarely goes longer than 5 of those. He could certainly have a bad device, but he can check out his other settings first, including screen brightness and LTE, as well as autosync for his various accounts. Swapping out the battery isn't an option.

As I tell everyone.. Just because you can't pop the back off easily doesn't make it impossible to replace. Is it harder and you kind of have to know what your doing? Yes.. But it is definitely not impossible.

Snapdragon BatteryGuru app seems to work pretty well for me with little to no interference on my performance.

What? Even the normal repair firms aren't touching this one. It's all fused together too much.

You contact HTC directly to have the battery replaced. That being said, since you've had it for under a year(unless you got it before everyone else somehow... magically), it is covered by their warranty.

Secondly before pursuing that option verify that there's no rogue applications that are keeping your cpu awake. Fastest way(but not most convenient) is to factory reset the device, let it sync back your stuff, except apps, and after all of those background tasks are complete, try the web browsing experience again. If it still dies in 3 hours, something is fishy with the phone. Otherwise something is fishy with one of your apps.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. What's the best way to backup the phone? With my previous iPhone it'd back up the whole app layout on home screens, pics etc. Is this just handled through htc manager on the pc? Haven't messed with it too much other than the initially setting it up.

I know it's doing the auto backups but I thought I saw that it only backs up contacts. Would like to avoid having to reconfigure everything if I could help it, in the event I swap out the phone. Would also like to at least reset it to see what the battery behavior is like.

I used the snapdragon app for a few weeks. Hard to tell a difference for me honestly. Tried the other apps as well.

I spoke with at&t on the phone and they are willing to do an exchange. Unfortunately, when you go through at&t they send you a refurbished phone but you're never without a phone. If I go through htc they'll exchange it with a brand new one but I'd have to send this back first which means I'd be without a phone. AT&T did said that I could just use my iPhone in the interim which would be fine. Still a pain in the *** though.

Wish I could just swap it out in the store but I ordered it through the at&t online store since I wanted the 64gb version and couldn't locate one locally in any of the stores.

Just for some additional reference - used my phone the past 30 minutes. Basically waiting on hold with at&t CS and browsing. Battery life went from 43 percent to 18.

I have a similar issue. My phone was fully charged and not doing anything on it, including the screen. I checked it after about 20 minutes to get ready to go some where, and saw it was down to 75%. When I got to my destination, it was down to 47%, (a ten minute drive)and I hadn't used it. (the phone itself seemed hotter than normal, especially because I wasn't using any apps) within an hour it was down to 4%. I took it to my carrier to look at, they did some basic checks and recommended I take it to Batteries Plus to have the battery check (warranty used up) or possibly a problem with the phone itself (still under a warranty plan)
Long story short, the battery life is at 73%. They told me about an app, "advanced task killer" for droids, and it can help with extending daily battery life by, killing background app and tasks without having to turn off or clear cache for each app.

That said, the problem still exists and even "killing" tasks on apps, my battery life went from 100% to dead in three hours, and sent two texts in that time.

The Batteries Plus people mentioned to try to plug in your phone at about 30% power and only until charged 100%.(they did an overnight check of the battery) They told me that charging my battery for too long can shorten the battery life of a cell phone battery. Charging below it 30%, or longer than the threeish hours it takes to charge, (for example overnight) shortens the battery life. So no more charging the battery for 8ish hours.
The Batteries Plus store have had a lot of people coming in with the Samsung S3 lately, asking for new batteries. (recall in the near future?)

I personally would venture to guess that it is a hardware malfunction overheating the battery, based on how this is sucking power so fast with or without apps in use.
(I am an o--l--d customer service rep from the mobile phone era of 20lb portable devices or "car phones" that would "SAT time out or FADE" aka overheat. seems like the same behaviors I used to see a looong time ago, when the battery was a separate part of the device because it was connected to the vehicle.)

We are looking into getting the phone replaced, hopefully under warranty with no deductible, and not a used, refurbished phone with the same issues.

Lol most definitely not a recall. Since the phone came out over a year ago it's safe to say the batteries are just dying off and most likely need to be replaced.
