well, i finally got it. here's a rundown of what i did, for whoever else hasnt gotten it yet. I have htc sync installed and the modified usb drivers. I used the 'mississippi' method with the 2gb pny from bestbuy. it took me about 4 tries to get the timing, which for me was clicking in the card just as the 'connected' sound in windows finished. good luck to everyone else! it feels great to finally win against this phone! Thanks for the support guys!

I got this method to work with a 2gb card. When I move back to my original 16 gb card, WiFi tether does not work anymore.. Do I need to move some files from one card to the other?

Yes, copy the android.tether folder from the 2gb over to your 16gb and all should work well.

Make sure you place a copy of the su and busybox on there as well.

I have tried for the last two days and no success. I have tried different sd cards, just about everything and I am going to give up until someone figures out an easier more reliable method.. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Don't give up. It took me two weeks trying over an hour every night. It sucks so bad when you're trying to do it, but once you get it, it's totally worth it!
