Thoughts after the Samsung S7 keynote?

S7 is looking great, they actually listened to feedback.

Bigger battery
SD Card
Water resistant
Smaller camera hump
Better low light and auto focus

Only things missing that I would like hardware wise are

Front facing speakers
IR blaster
Usb C

dreaming of electric sheep

I've noticed that I didn't hear anything about an IR blaster. I know it may not be a big deal but I just bought a Note 4 not too long ago and actually love the IR blaster feature. I'm assuming it's not on the S7?

Has anyone noticed if there was a notification led light on these? Since there is a always on display, wasn't sure if they still have that on either phone?

Very tempted!

Hugely impressed. I don't really see any weaknesses with these phones hardware-wise.

I was pretty convinced that I'd be getting an iPhone 5SE but now I'm not sure. The camera on the S7s sound freaking incredible and photography is what excites me most about smartphones these days.

I prefer smaller phones so very conflicted whether I'd want the more compact and cheaper S7 or S7 edge with that glorious 3600mAh battery.

We are in the same line of thought.. sort of. I'm had a z5c and sold it to try the nexus 5x which I them sold because it's too big. I'm now using a z3c. So my options with smaller phones are to buy another z5c which I really did love, buy the iPhone 5 se, or buy the s7.

Some deciding factors will be:
*Does the iPhone have the a9 with 2gb ram?
* Does the Samsung have some of the lag issues it always seems to eventually have?
* does Sony update to Marshmallow soon

I could honestly seeing myself staying with the Sony becuase I love the software compared to Samsung and just look forward to the z6c/z7c in the fall.
I'm just worried after getting Burnt with the s6 that I'll be disappointed dispite the high specs and features.

Mid March I think all the above questions will be answered with reviews, including how MM effects the z5c so I'll try to be patient.

Re: Thoughts after the keynote?

With 32gb internal, I am on without adoptable storage. An sd card is perfect for media which is what I will use it for mainly
Hate to sound like a dolt, but can someone walk me through exactly how you use an SD card for storage -- step by step. So let's say I have 500 photos that I've taken with the phone and I want to move them all to the SD card...what do I do exactly. Also how about if I want the phone's camera to automatically store all photos on the SD card instead of the phone's internal storage? Is there a way to make the SD card the default destination for all new photos?

Yeh, no IR blaster in the S7. It's on my S6 and I use it all the time. I guess not enough people were using it.

IPhone 5se vs s7 you are in a different price class. Base s7 is 399 on 2 yr

I think Samsung could set new all-time sales records with their GS7's and also take a big bite out of the iPhone's market share...IF they get it right on pricing and have only minor tech glitches. IMO, the GS-6's were priced too high for what you got. Guess we'll know the GS7's prices tomorrow.
I suspect Apple is suffering from stomach ulcers today.

As usual the specs on paper look great and im impressed but actual usage may tell a different story just like with the S6. A bigger battery and 4gb of RAM is awesome but if the software is not well optimized (which it never really is with Samsung) it wont matter. Standby battery drain and memory management may still be an issue. Just have to wait and see I guess.

You can use a file manager (Samsung usually includes the my files app) find the folder, long press to select, then select more from the upper right, then select copy.

Then go to the sd card and paste it where you want uploadfromtaptalk1456153160668.jpg

In the note 4, there was a setting to select where photos would be stored (internal or sd). I would suspect that the s7 would be the same.

According to best buy website it is $200 sprint, $250 Verizon for on contract.

No IR Blaster
No 2nd screen.
No removable battery
No GPS based smart settings

LG V10 is STILL your undisputed champ and STILL the best phone ever made!

The No IR Blaster is a bummer. Its a feature I thought I'd never use but ended up using it quite a bit.

I have Z5C currently too. I do love it but the camera is not as good at low light photography as I had hoped it'd be. And the fact that currently with the Lollipop build it runs, it's actually slower to launch apps than my old Nexus 5 running Marshmallow, which shouldn't be the case. So I'm getting really impatient for the Marshmallow update!

The thing that draws me to the iPhone 5SE is the small size and perfect syncing with my iPad that I own.

The thing that attracts me to the S7/S7 edge is the really awesome camera they showed off.

Seeing as photography is my main interest point in modern day smartphones I think the S7 is definitely winning out. The water resistance, fast charging and SD card support really help too.

I too really want to know if the iPhone 5SE will have the A9 and at least 2GB RAM but can't wait to find out as prices of S7s here in UK will be going up after the preorder period is over. So if I want Samsung, it's now or never.

Not to go off topic too bad but Did you happen to see the announcement of the Sony X performance? 1080p, Snapdragon 820 (which sounds lovely) and an improved Camara sensor. Lol we can't win..

V10 is also giant and weighs 20 lbs. I have G4 and am scared of another hardware failure. I will miss GPS based smart settings.

I assume that means that if I am in my car, I can't leave phone unlocked based on location? I will miss that, back buttons, and knock on/off.

Yes I did. Very annoyed that Sony has replaced our supposed flagships with a supposed mid-ranger that actually has better hardware just mere months later. It just kind of begs the question; did Sony bring it's A game for the Z5 series or was it rushed out the door just because Sony needed a new phone for 2015 as the Z3+ wasn't a real upgrade. They had better port the updated (and supposedly much better) camera firmware they bragged about as this new phone has the same camera sensor hardware as the Z5s. If they don't, that'd be really poor treatment of Z5 series owners and Sony shooting themselves in the foot.

/rant over!
