Thoughts after the Samsung S7 keynote?

I'm preordering it via BestBuy. The 32gb model should be sufficient for what I need. I don't download lots of apps. MicroSD definitely plus for photo's and video stuff only.

Definitely getting the Edge :)

Yes I did. Very annoyed that Sony has replaced our supposed flagships with a supposed mid-ranger that actually has better hardware just mere months later. It just kind of begs the question; did Sony bring it's A game for the Z5 series or was it rushed out the door just because Sony needed a new phone for 2015 as the Z3+ wasn't a real upgrade. They had better port the updated (and supposedly much better) camera firmware they bragged about as this new phone has the same camera sensor hardware as the Z5s. If they don't, that'd be really poor treatment of Z5 series owners and Sony shooting themselves in the foot.

/rant over!

Can't say I blame you ypu for the rant. There seems no ryme or reason to sonys releases. I don't have a clue as to how this plays in with the current Z line.

It's great that they brought back microSD support, and the phone actually looks sexy, but I still can't see myself using a Samsung.

Yah I hate touchwiz. I had an S5 and I like the specs of s7 and hardware is amazing. Miss the waterproofing. hahahahah

I'd so buy the s7 if it ran Blackberry launcher.

I don't understand the point of the XPERIA X Performance either.

It's basically a flagship that isn't marketed as one. I hope this means the XPERIA Z6 will get some substantial upgrades.

I'm not sure if you meant you want to change the entire UI, but you can change the default launcher if you want.

Also, the theme engine should still be there, so you can also change how the rest of the UI looks.

Pros:
- gorgeous look
- better camera
- finally improved edge functionality
- bringing back the sd card

Cons:
- TW still in board
- back and recent apps button still not physical
- no 4k screen
- Exynos instead of SD 820 outside of the US so less custom Roms
- no removable battery
- back still slippery glass

Overall what I expected a refinement of the s6

No IR Blaster
No 2nd screen.
No removable battery
No GPS based smart settings

LG V10 is STILL your undisputed champ and STILL the best phone ever made!

Far from it. It's much slower, worse quality screens, they don't have much support for the finger print sensor in apps yet, it's battery is not near as good but you can at least swap it, it is also a much larger phone. I owned one and went back to a Note 5 after not being impressed.

I don't think 4K displays are really needed now.

I'm very impressed. As far as I'm concerned, the S7 is the closest thing to perfection FOR ME.

Beautiful phone. Be aware that just like the previous flagship phone from Samsung, there will be few Android updates and even then they will be 6 months or more beyond the date other phones get updated. For example, even with the S7 being released with Android 6.x, the S6s (which is internally almost identical) still only have 5.1.1. Samsung orphans their hardware as quickly as possible. Regardless of carrier, the complexity of TouchWiz continues to delay and discourage the update process. If that is OK with you, then great. This goes for their tablets as well. It is a problem for all non-Nexus devices of course, but Samsung is notorious for being the worse manufacturer in OS support.

Actually S6s here in UK have started being upgraded to Marshmallow. My work colleague got the update on his edge yesterday.

Yeah this means buying the s7 will get you Android N.. But not until the s8 is out. Kinda still sucks to me.

Disappointed they stayed with micro USB, all because of some stupid VR headset that thousands of people will buy when they sell millions of phones. Wish they had gone with front facing speakers too, seems like it should be standard now.

Really happy to see the always on display, that's what I missed the most about my Moto X. Glad they used the curved back like the Note 5, it will greatly improve the ergonomics of the slab phone. And the fact that it's slightly thicker. Imagine that Samsung, you made the phone thicker and NOBODY CARED. Stop making such thin phones that are hard to hold onto.

Can't wait to get mine in a few weeks, I'll be glad to go back to a smaller phone after having the Note 5 for a bit.

I would like Samsung to make another nexus device forget the s7 with bloatware and touchwiz. Just make me an unlocked phone and let me do what I want to do without the carrier and company restrictions.

Never gonna happen. Samsung sees themselves as a competitor to Google now, not a partner. Notice how damn near every Google app out there has a Samsung equivalent pre-installed on your phone? They want you to look at your phone and see Samsung everything and Google nothing. We'll be lucky if they don't start putting Tizen on their Galaxy phones.

- no 4k screen

This is clearly one of the SILLIEST things I've ever seen written on this site. I'm willing to bet you couldn't tell the difference in a blind test of two screens under 6", one with 2k and one with 4k. I'm almost even willing to bet you couldn't tell the difference between 1080 and the others too.
