Thoughts on the Note 10 and Note 10+ now that everything has been laid out?

Well I'm on a Sprint lease and not due for an upgrade until October with galaxy forever. So in order for me to take advantage of the Preorder promotions and trades, I would have to pay off the note 9 $665 to trade it in for a $600 credit and get the promo. However if I wait till say November I could get $200-300 off the note 10, turn in my note 9 without penalty or having to pay it off and sometimes they give gift cards etc... For $100 or so.

If I already owned the note 9 outright then yes Preorder would be the best deal.
That was my plan, but I jumped on the pre-order bandwagon because of the incentives. $600 trade in for the N9 + $200 in free Samsung "cash". I can't get that for my N9. I have a N8 as a backup. All told, I'm walking away paying a little under $500 for the N10+ along with buds, a case, and a juice box; and I should have it hand in under 2 weeks. Do the holiday discounts measure up? Honest question, I always buy on release day.

Unless you get a portable battery with wireless charging built in. There are a number of them out there.

But then you have to hold the phone against the charger or find somewhere to place the charger flatly so you can rest your phone on it. It’s not as practical as cable charging.

Don't worry about it. Get the $20 double dongle and enjoy. That way you'll have only one cable connected to the phone instead of two cables running from different ports.

I'm on tmobile with a similar plan. Jump. I'm not sure when I can upgrade. Just checked and I could, but I think I'll wait and just walk in and out of a store. There are several by where I live. Still need a case.

Is it really that hard to do that? I use one with my N9. Can't see it being a problem on a plane (seat back tray). I can't imagine a train/bus being very difficult. In my own car, I have a dedicated wireless charger, but I've used mine as a passenger a couple of times. I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

It annoys me that I get the same trade in value for my Note9 with 512gb and 8gb ram as the more common Note9 with less memory

Ok. Here’s my two cents on the Galaxy Note 10/10+.First off Samsung gets a D grade for their underwhelming event this year. For this to be the “tenth anniversary” Note and S series, they fell miserably short of our expectations for the phone. This is likely due to the false start of the Galaxy Fold unveiled during the S10 launch event.

By the way anybody seen Justin Denison? I’d be hiding too after that Fold fiasco. Wasn’t he the one that always took a swipe at Apple for not having the headphone jack? Interestingly enough he’s not here for the note event. Somebody send out an APB for his whereabouts? Perhaps he’s in the witness protection program.

What Samsung did wrong:
1.No SD Card on the Note 10. That should have never been the case. I understand that you want to sell two phone sizes but give us the same hardware options. I can see that you only want to do a 256GB option. That’s fair. But no SD card option was wrong. Apparently, they didn’t learn a thing from the Note 5 episode.
2.No USB-C dongle included with the phones. What the hell? Are you Apple in disguise now by conveniently leaving out accessories? Notice how they place the dongle for sale on their web site for $14.99
3.No Quad HD display on the Note 10. Ok, you saw how Apple did this with their 10R, claiming liquid retina LCD screen and you wanted to do the same? Shame on you for trying to pull a fast one. Consumers are smarter than that.
4.Pricing. For $949 give the people more options including color choices. Samsung, you are not listening to the fan base. Apple is. Make up your mind as to who you want to be.
5.In past years the note was the hit out of the park, knock you off your feet standard when it comes to specs. They need to get back to that with some revolutionary specs, not seen by other manufacturers like Huawei. You have let others into the competition and now you are trailing.
What Sammy did right:
1.Offer two different Note size packages. Now that you have a 6.3 and 6.8-inch variants, people can option for the smaller device. Earlier this year my wife opted for the S10 instead of the S-10 plus. Mind the fact that she was upgrading from the S7 edge and she was very happy with that screen size. Some people are still intrigued by the S-pen and its functionality. Now the S-pen only had an incremental upgrade this year compared to previous years but people that I run into still are amazed of the S-pen in terms of what it can do.
2.Internal storage base set at 256GB. This is the sweet spot and should be the standard going forward. Pay a little more for 512 and 1TB if you truly need it.
3.Pre-order options. You get $150 towards the purchase of accessories and package options are available on the Samsung web site. Give the peeps some free stuff while gouging us in the eye with the price points that you know that some will pay. Not all of us.
You can tell that their P/L bottom line is falling. Why else did they not have invited celebrities to the event like they did in past years. Don’t get me wrong. I’m sure that there will be a great marketing campaign coming up for this new device.
For the record, I am getting the Note 10 plus variant with 256GB.

I like how on #2 you conveniently left out that  included the dongles with their phones for two years whereas with Samsung’s first outing ditching the headphone jack on one of their flagships they have the gall to not even include the dongle to blatantly push people towards their inferior AirPods knock offs Galaxy buds.

At least  provided the option and you could buy AirPods. Maybe Samsung thinks people will be switch from other phones that have gotten rid of the headphone jack already and they have the dongle already.

Agree with you on 4, Samsung can not nail this down at all on colors. Why show two colors at the event that you aren’t even going to sell everywhere?

Having AirPods for $160 as an additional extra doesn’t compensate in any way for Apple’s decision to get rid of the headphone jack. By including a dongle Apple helped make the switch easier, but having expensive Bluetooth earphones doesn’t count.

Otherwise based on that same logic you could say Samsung has the Galaxy buds (which are slightly cheaper than AirPods).

Instead of providing a dongle, Samsung included Type-C AKG earphones which to be fair are quite decent/good and are far superior to Apple’s EarPods. Would I have preferred a dongle instead/in addition? Probably, if I had already invested in a expensive or good pair of wired earphones. But at least the in-box earphones Samsung provided are decent and for non-audiophiles will provide a good experience.

https://www.techradar.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s8s-free-headphones-beat-apples-by-a-mile (the link does review the AKG earphones that have a 3.5mm connector, but the ones that are in the Note 10 box are the same but just have Type-C instead)

with everything laid out, personally I don't think the regular Note 10 is an upgrade at all really over the 8gb/512gb Note 9, not that it matters as I was never going to be considering that one anyway and looking forward to my Note 10 plus

The upgrade is the screen size in a smaller footprint. I think the people that order the Note 10 like all the options of the Note but want a smaller footprint. They are willing to give up a little batter and an SD slot that not everyone uses.

I ordered a note 10+ and a note 10. The note 10+ has an expected delivery date of Aug. 23rd where the note 10 has an expected delivery date of Sept. 4th. That is odd...

I went in to vzw today to check out the Note 10 plus 5G. It is a knock out to look at. The trade in price on my Note9 is better than swappa price although I get ripped off because I have 512 model yet get no additional trade value.

It really is a tough decision but i will probably stick to the 9. If a salesman could've sold me one today to take home I wouldn't have been able to resist.

The fact it won't get q for a year is a little annoying. It's big edge is the lighter weight and the prettier screen.

I'm wondering if the Note 10 is selling better than many are thinking. The bloggers, this site, and most reviewers are bashing the smaller Note. Samsung would have never released a smaller Note without significant market research. They most likely found that a smaller form factor would be a good choice. Also, most never use over 256gb of storage, nor would miss a headphone jack, nor use any other screen resolution than 1080p. Those who frequent sites like this think the screen resolution is a big deal, but to the average consumer, I doubt whether they will care. 7% of readers say they will buy the smaller Note, but that's the percentage of people who frequent this site. I think the overall percentage might surprise us.

None of Samsung’s flagships have been selling. Not that other manufacturers have had more luck. I’d say they should all start switching to a 2-year release cycle.

Well the Note 10+ 5G, 512gb seems impossible to pre-order anywhere in Europe at the moment

The S10 series is selling significantly better than the S9 series, so I’m not sure where you’re getting your information at the moment.

I agree...I’ve already stated several of the points you mentioned in other comments on other threads (e.g who needs expandable storage when you have 256GB) but many still don’t seem to understand.
