thoughts on the V20?

1. LG would be perhaps wise to offer an aftermarket extended battery with cover: 4000 mah.
2. Not seeing how we can make comments on the display without seeing in person. Kind of like people calling Home Shopping Network while watching TV demos and commenting how it looks amazing ;)
3. Audio tech is nice, but the tech's real audio value is with lossless files. I use MP3.
4. That top display seems a waste and should have opted instead for kick a$$ stereo speakers :)
5. Replaceable batteries FTW! I bet Samsung wished they did that NOW with the Note 7 ;)
6. If the V20 has better signal reception than the Note 7, I might consider it.
7. Wonder if as fast and the low light photos are as great as the Note 7?
8. Power efficiency and quality of the display?

Comparatively, I really like the Note 7 due to the display, size, power save options, pen (not needed though), fast camera with good low light results, and home button instead of about 15% of the display taken up buy a navigation bar. That is the one thing I also disliked with the MXPE. Well, that and it ran fairly hot with much GPU use.

Re: What do we have here?

Honestly, battery doesn't phase me. I actually get pretty good battery life on my V10. The overall design isn't great. I'm not the biggest fan of modern "sleek". I define sleek more colorfully than the designers. I think they confuse sleek with sterile. I just don't see the appeal of shades of metal slab. Side buttons are also a bad idea, but I have grown accustomed to choosing things based more off of minimal negatives rather than numerous positives.

I hate to say it, but between the design changes and the hardware issues that I am having with the V10, I will probably be looking at the Note 7 next. Not happy about that in the slightest, especially with the incredibly stupid fingerprint reader design they have, but I already knew their designs were meh.
Well despite the recalls the Note 7 is an excellent choice and the camera is definitely in the top of the pack along with LG and Apple. Honestly though I just watched the iPhone 7 event and that 7 Plus camera looks like a real beauty to me. I will reserve judgement for final reviews but it has me really thinking and I already know the battery life will be better than the V20 based off previous phones like the G5 compared to the 6S Plus. But I'm still not sure I want to give up all those manual controls and hifi audio recording which I would personally use a lot. Decisions. Decisions.

The phone isn't attractive.

The ram is just as you would expect. No better no less. 4gb seems standard these days.

The battery is super average and I'm not the type of person to walk around with battery's in my pocket.

The best thing about this phone is the audio Imo. If you all say the camera is good I'll take your word for it.

Having had to replace my v10 twice because of boot loops and hardware issues LG is saying NOTHING right now to win me back for the V20.

And the phone is significantly uglier. How does that happen?

Damn and I just realized. No chance in hell is this phone water resistant either. These are perks I need in my life in 2016.

I agree completely. The V10 had sort of an 'industrial' look which I liked along with the back... and I personally don't like the volume controls being moved (again). Seems like most OEM's can't stick with a single design for long.

With the minor change in battery, I wish they would have just kept it identical - so I could share the ones I've already purchased.

But the thing that gets me the most, is bloatware. I watched going from LP to MM an increase in 600 MB of usage (close to 3GB in use total now). And what do I expect with Nougat, for it to go down?

I love the V10, have purchased a second and I expect to purchase at least one more. LG really changed much of what I would have addressed but did themselves no favors with other changes... we'll see.

Apple just announced stereo speakers. That might be my que to jump ship.

Being an audio lovers dream does the V20 have stereo speakers?

Just watched the apple show too, was pretty impressed with the 7plus even though they took features from android phones, they do a good job. Just putting this out there but, if the V20 is the same price as the 7plus I might go to the dark side...that gaming demo showed some fluid screen movement.

You will notice the increased fidelity and increased output no matter what.

Which storage model though cause the V20 is 64gb out the box plus the ability to expand storage. If the 128gb is the same price as the V20(do we know the price yet?) I would consider it but not for anything less than 128gb.

Yeah, no... I don't include iPhone in any phone purchases. They have yet to make a device that I would not sell if given to me. I'm sure that the Note 7 is a great device, just like the V20. Shame that I am going with the lesser of two evils. Going back to side buttons no matter what it would seem.

I can pretty much guarantee based on their history that ZeroLemon and others will be launching a few options in very short order. :)

i think they have done a decent job with the phone!!! now that iphone 7 is released, the dust has to settle down before we get some nice lg v20 indepth coverage

The Jet Black iPhone 7+ is asking me to give it a proper go.

My apologies if this was posted in one of the endless threads but has a price been confirmed yet?

Having the battery pop out also has some other potential benefits. If it ends up in water, the removal of the electric source means there is far less chance of damage to the electronics. Just take it home, put it in rice for a day or two, and you should be good to go.

Of course, the back panel coming off means that a light rain which might otherwise not get inside would have an easy path in, so there are plusses and minuses to that.

It's going in a case

Does the DAC actually produce higher volume through the headphones compared to non-DAC devices?

They needed space for the battery draining ticker top thingy. No room for speakers that would have IMO been better choice.

Respectfully, MP3 and audio fidelity are oxymoronish. I use MP3 cause I can stuff a lot more in storage, but would not use fidelity as a key descriptor.

The device none the less would have made a better media splash by ditching the power and space wasting second screen and adding stereo speakers instead. That would have backed their media centric touting a lot better.

But they're not. Saying they are is false. "MP3" has been improperly linked with "can't sound good" which isn't true. 320Kbps MP3 sounds just fine.

But that's besides the point. What files you use are separate from the fact that the playback and fidelity capabilities of the phone are far better than any other phone available (and frankly probably quite a few cheaper DAP's). Crappy audio files won't take that capability away. In fact, you might actually hear just how crappy those files are, where lesser devices would mask it because they weren't, well, not crappy.

Side question, what bitrate do you encode in?

Just be sure to get a case. It apparently scratches very easily.

Not "very easily", just "easier" than the other finishes.

I think any technology lover would naturally want to give the new iPhone a go. It's more than a simple refresh that's for sure. Caught me way off guard.
