Thunderbolt Battery Complaints + Tips/Tricks

Agreed. I honestly am not having the plaguing battery issues that most people seem to be reporting. Maybe this is a case of only those who are having a poor experience chiming.

First of all, I do not like to jump to conclusions about battery performance since there are many variables involved. Data coverage, apps installed/used, screen settings (brightness)... the list goes on. One person may call "moderate" use something completely different than the next person.

Secondly, I have only had the device for a bit over one day now so it is extremely hard to gauge normal daily performance when most users have only had the device for 24 -36 hours.

I am with you though!! Once root methods become available we will be able to take proactive measures to increase battery performance :)

Exactly!

How can anyone with this phone have any idea of how normal use effects the battery, the phone has only been out for 24 hours? I haven't kept my hands off of mine. It you're using ANY smart phone heavily, the battery will be gone in a matter of hours. Carry an extra battery.

If HTC would have used a larger battery, you same people would complain about size. A little prospective: The battery in this phone is less than 1 cubic inch in size.

Exactly.... can we start an Exactly Thread :) how can you comment on a phones battery life after using it for a half of a day. If you bought the phone at 9:00am and charged it for a good 6-9 hours. You really didn't have much time testing everything out Or give it a few good long charges. Yes lithium batteries don't hold a memory charge but when they have been sitting for a while not being used (in the box) they need at least two days to get them conditioned again.

probably not. Let the battery drain, then charge. Adjust your display, kill unecessary widgets, kill the WiFi, GPS, heck, I even kill mobile Data if I know I don't need it (this way, it might work on demand).

And if you are in the US, and have specific provider applications running (ATT, Verizon, etc) Well, I would root the phone, and get a different ROM.

I use Quick settings aplication. I keep mine at 29% (give or take) But there are other apps. you can also use the stock Android apps. Just tone it down a notch.

Oh man, get the $49 2750mah battery, I left GPS running all day yesterday and couldn't put it down and it was still at 30% when I went to bed....It just gives it a little more weight in your hand(I'm used to an alum cased Devour so it's the same weight) and makes it easier to hold onto and you have more of a handle with the larger battery on there. What other phone can you get a double battery with....definitely worth it.

I got 5 hours today from a full charge and minimal playing around. Its awful. I am about to go buy the fruit.

5 hours on a full charge??? Are you controlling air traffic??? I think somebody,,,,, is over-stating facts. I can run full Wifi, Gps, and get better than 5 hours.

One more thing I like to add to this is I noticed and forgot about it. Temperature can reak havoc on battery conditions as well. Go outside and it will be warm and cause the phone to heat up, the battery drains more and then come inside where it is cool and the battery cools back down a couple degrees.

Yea, I didn't charge mine last night and did my first charge this morning from 6am to 730am, had about a 95% charge and instead of working :D I did a Tango call with the wife, texted all morning, surfed the net to setup my bookmarks, took some pics. When I left for the gym basically playing with it for 4 hours the HTC battery widget had me at 72% remaining. I have GPS off while I'm at work, have my screen at 25%, turned off all of the little vibration feedback crap, screensaver comes on at 1 minute, I still get email push, and I grabbed a few things from the Android Market in that 4 hour time frame.

If battery life is a major concern, you won't be disappointed with the iphone. Like I said in my previous post, I love Android, I like it wayyyy more than iOS, but Apple has really upped the ante with battery life, and these HTC phones are not even coming close....

On my Evo, the battery percentage would drop at least 4-5 percent per hour in standby, and if I had weak signal, it was more like 5-10 percent (4G OFF)... The iphone, on the other hand, loses LESS than 1 percent per hour in standby. When I take it off the charger in the morning it will stay at 100% for over 2 hours until I actually use the phone.

Google/HTC need to get this figured out real quick. It is my only major complaint. I want Android back

I got 3 hours and 17 minutes last night playing with it almost constantly. that was my first time using it after 100% charge. Today I went from 100 to 53 in 4 hours while listening to pandora with the screen off and 3 texts.

Battery life seemed pretty awful for me yesterday, even when I wasn't playing with it constantly. Today, it's been doing pretty well. I have the settings pretty much how I like them and I haven't messed with the phone much - a minute or two on the phone, I think a couple of texts, took a pic and sent it to my computer over bluetooth and checked Facebook for a few. With all that and unplugging it at 9AM, it is now 1:30 PM and I'm at 86%.

I should also note that my office here usually gets awful cell signal which can kill batteries, but the LTE signal seems to be strong. I've actually been pretty impressed by the LTE coverage so far - I went a good ways outside of town and still had service; I don't think it's ever been outside of LTE service.

Also, I have auto-brightness on, Weatherbug is the only data widget I'm using, I don't see the relevance of GPS since it doesn't run unless I'm using maps anyways, and I have exchange sync off for now. Facebook and Google are the only syncs I have on right now.

when i went to sleep my HTC TB was at 80% wheni woke up 6 hours later it was DEAD.........

Totally the opposite for me! i charged it, sent a few emails and texts went to bed, 6 hours later it was at 87% (im using circle widget) im currently at 36% and it has been unplugged since 1am with moderate use. i also went into phone info and turned of LTE since im not in an LTE market.

Yesterday the phone went dead in 3-4 hours. Of course that was heavy usage, but today I didnt play with all the apps and used it as a form of communication and not a toy. Unplugged at 8:30 am and its at 68% right now. I'm satisfied with the battery life. This was on LTE and there was one hour in where there was 3g/4g hand off ( i was in a basement).

I haven't really done much with the phone but I did get the 2750 maH battery. I don't know if I'm going to keep it because it is HUGE. I don't like the size or weight of the unit with a battery this large.

I'm going to fully charge both the standard battery and the extended and try them out for a few days. If there is a large difference in usable time I might keep the 2750 but I'm hoping I can get by with the standard or maybe something a little larger that doesn't require and mammoth new back cover.

Sounds like normal usage to me. I've done about the same, still on 35% and I unplugged 17hrs ago. I don't need gps unless I'm lost on the streets of Moscow (often). I think the newbies, just need to chill, charge the battery from a dead state a couple times. And turn off all the senseless BS apps I am sure have been installed when they got the phones. Heck, we don't need the phone searching for updates every 15 minutes. Do it manually every 5 days or so. They ain't gonna come that often!

Would love to get a larger battery, but, wife got me a custom case, and I would hate to throw it away.

racedog you may want to check out the 1600mah battery from seidio. It gives you little more juice and but no added size. After 6 hours of moderate use, facebook, text messaging, talking, a couple of widgets..screen at 85% bright. I have 80% battery. Just remember to charge the battery before use, and leave charging 2 hours after the green light turns on (this is seidio's instructions)

If your in an area that does not have LTE service should you turn off LTE in the service menu?
