Thunderbolt has been powering off suddenly

Ok I think I maybe narrowing it down, those of you who are "Rebooting" you are most likely restarting Sense and not rebooting. Those that are powering off completely, I suspect there is voltage error. What kind of battery life are you getting out of your phone? Personally I would RMA asap.

I think it's not just restarting sense but rather a full reboot. It takes a good minute or more for the phone to be ready to use again, just as if it had been shut down and turned back on.

I get a white HTC screen, then a reboot. Happens when I'm trying to open something.
Suspect that it might be due to too many apps running at once, a memory leak, or maybe some sort of watchdog timer. Is there a system log to view in Android?

The Words With Friends app Force Closes constantly, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was causing other problems. I turned off the background syncing today in that app.

It generally happens to me when I've been talking for 20 or so minutes or more on the phone. I've started to suspect that it has something to do with the simultaneous voice and 3G data feature (it seems to happen about when twitter should update). This isn't always the case though, it's rebooted once completely out of the blue with nothing happening on the phone, and once while connecting via Bluetooth to my car stereo.

If it were just sense restarting as someone else mentioned, why would the calls be dropped?

ok this is really starting to tick me off. 2 more times in just 5 mins..... Has anyone contacted HTC or Verizon and got some type of answere? Before I call/email to complain.

I've noticed a few random reboots on my Thunderbolt. Good to know I'm not the only one, it hasn't interrupted anything important but I hope this wont be a regular TB 'feature' :-\

I just read today some people have a hardware version 1, I have never heard of this before. This maybe a hardware issue, if so VZW needs to exchange new ones not Refurbs!
If anyone has had a random shutdown, please check your hardware version and post?
go to Menu>Settings>About phone>hardware Info

I have version 0002 (odd since I got mine on launch day) and mine reboots every 2.5-3 days give or take mostly in the middle of the night (only reason I know it is happening is the up-time reported by an app I have that runs on start-up. Never been a serious issue for me though.

no this is a complete reboot where it goes through the black screen and then the whold thunderbolt animation before Sense comes up again. I read somewhere else that this was believed to be caused by a data handoff issue where LTE was being used or tested. I have no mine have been about 4x during the night and 3x not and every time it was plugged into the charger.

Had two random shutdowns in last 48 hours. I'm in 3G location only but last week we have seen 4G come on and off as it is being ready to launch soon. Todays was really weird I had about 1/3 of the battery meter left and had just turned to yellow. Phone battery said I had 14 percent left and so turned off display and took a shower. I come back phone is off / dead. Turn it back on and soon as it boots all way up plug it in and turn on the lock screen to see it claim I have 59 percent battery charged? Obviously is some huge bugs in what is being displayed as battery life and what is actual. Never had mine do this until last two days, but neither time did the phone restart it just turned off without actually powering down.

Yes from what I read that is exactly what causes it. As for your battery life issue what app are you using to measure it?

No apps just going by directly what phone states in power meter and in power level status as well as what it "claims" is battery life when you have it charging. None seem to be accurate at all since I highly doubt it can just go from 1/3 battery life and then dead in less then 5 minutes while not even active and just sitting with display off. Then get powered back on and all sudden has 49 percent life? lol huge issue there. Here is to hoping they fix how often and accurate the phone pulls your battery life.

P.S I have tried the HTC Battery widget but just as much at main battery meter and the battery level status they never match up even close to being similar after I hit below 50 percent they just jump around a ton randomly even though my phone usage never changes from full charge to finish. I'm checking txt / email here and there but I would say barely over 1 hour of display on in 6 hour window.

That's what I was getting at, widgets are never that accurate.

I had my first random reboot yesterday. Left work, got in the car and about a mile down the road I felt the phone vibrate in my shirt pocket. Thought it was an email coming in so I grabbed it and glanced down only to see a white HTC screen. I live in a 3G-only area, not even a whiff of 4G around here.
It just went through a normal reboot, nothing weird about it except for why it occurred...

Complete reboot oh ok thank you for sharing this info. I live in a 3g area which explains why this has not happened to me.

I live in a 3g area too but it is happening to me. Just today I caught it spontaneously reboot doing nothing at all, just sitting on a desk at the lockscreen.

Okay so I had the same problem with my HTC hero a while back. What happens is, when your phone connects to GPS it restarts. All you have to do is call verizon and they have to update your phone on their end.

They are most likely testing 4G/LTE. This tends to happen for months before it officially becomes available, AT&T did the same thing with 3G when we finally got that here last year.

They are, I've seen it flip to LTE and back at other times without crashing though.

I'm sorry but your totally lost me here. I have GPS for google checked it it always connected so how does that have any relevance in the rebooting. Sorry just makes zero sense unless you intended to assume everyone in this thread had GPS unchecked and then I would understand a bit better I guess. What would Verizon even do to update the phone on their end GPS is not controlled by them at all.
