Thunderbolt Specs: a look at what's inside (1.2 GHz Dual-core)

Think of the amount of bandwidth a 5mp/720p front-facing camera would hog over video chat. You'd use up your 5 gigs of data in a heartbeat

This is actually one spec I hope DOESN'T happen

It would be the best thing may just strap it to a car battery just so i can have power while using that 5mp front cam and lte

I can see this phone launching in January, especially if they have (5) other LTE phones in the pipeline at different stages preparedness. Six phones, with a phone or two a month released then the damned fruity phone everyone is wetting themselves over in June. I hope they enjoy only 3G speeds on that phone, at least the network will be reliable.

You'll need dual-core batteries for this thing

Well, if the dual-core processor is being used correctly, battery life should be good. The dual-core should do the same processes in half the time using half the power.

The LTE radio should contribute to some battery drain, though lol

Anyone have any clue on screen res/tech? Id love for it to be over 800x480 and still be AMOLED like the Incredible.

CES just needs to come and have all these questions answered, hopefully lol

The 8960 wont make it into phones this year I would be surprised to se the 8660 but I doubt they will need the 8960 that will probably be the chipset that has native support for lte and hopefully less battery drain

so you said native support... does that mean they could go with another chip and add support on for lte? did they do that with wimax?

I mean the chipset had the radio built in with the current wimax and lte solutions yhr radios are added on so the performance and power management isn't as good as say one that would have been built with that modem

I dont see this as being true, would be two handfuls of awesome if it was, but prolly not true.

Im willing to bet my left testical this is NOT true.

1Ghz single core:
AndroidSPIN ? Breaking: HTC Thunderbolt 4G Processor Revealed

1Ghz processor, and full friggin year later? FAIL! Both LG and Moto will be announcing their LTE phones, but with dual core processors, yet HTC says, "It?s not your dream phone. It?s the one after that" lmao. This phone has LTE, but old technology, and they have the nerve to say, its the phone AFTER your dream phone? lol. Hilarious.

Oh yeah, and check this out. According to the latest rumor, because this phone doesn't have a dual-core processor, it won't be getting Honeycomb at all!

Wait long enough and a monkey will fly out of their butts over at AndroidSpin. "Reliable" sources, considering how well HTC has been handling the leaks and deets on this I don't see the full specs getting out.

A single core works for me for now, I will gladly get a dual core later on in the year.

2 things worth mentioning here.

1) When Gingerbread was coming out, the same kind of stuff was being said. Google was quick to deny it.

2) The article specifically mentions tablets and almost goes out of it's way NOT to mention any phones. It's very possible that the OS could require a dual core processor to run on a tablet, and not on the phone as Honeycomb has been rumored to have tailoring/optimization built in specifically for the tablet platforms.

You are right, it doesn't mention phones at all. However, that leaves a possibility that it could have an effect on phones. I have never read that Honeycomb would only be for tablets....just that it is optimized to work on tablets better. Just as IOS works on ipad and iPhone....Honeycomb could work on android tablets as well as android phones. Its all speculation that could go either way, but my point that the article mentions honeycomb requiring dual core is still valid. We will obviously have to wait for confirmation. When it is all said and done.....its better to have more advanced technology for better performance and to future-proof your device, just in case certain software updates, apps, etc require or can take advantage of that technology.

Qualcomm Reveals Next-Gen Snapdragon MSM8960: 28nm, dual-core, 5x Performance Improvement - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

but it does make sense that the one they said would be the one in the phone (8960). Its the only one that says lte under it. plus they proly wont release it for a month or two so that gives them more time to get them in phones..

that sounded too easy I know but any dual core would be great at this point.

That's a big jump. Just because Qualcomm has only announced the 8960 as being an LTE chip doesn't mean that its the only one that can do it. Besides, the 8960 was just announced in November and won't even be sampled until 2011. Phones that actually use it would come a fair bit after that. (the first multi-mode chipset, for example, was sampled in november 2009 and JUST came to market in the last three months)

It could be based around the MDM 9600 wireless chipset, which was mainly for data cards, but is also one of the few multi-mode LTE capable chipsets out there. That is the ONLY production chipset that Qualcomm has that is multi-mode, and would be suitable for deployment (in a highly customized fashion) in the TB. Of course it would lack some critical hardware (like a CPU), but it would provide the necessary connections.

Or, has anyone considered that this might not be based around a Qualcomm chipset at all? Tegra 2 is out there, and with Qualcomm's lack of suitable LTE chipsets for Verizon, they may have worked something out to provide the wireless chipset while a different processor was sourced from Nvidia or someplace else.
