Thunderbolt sucks

I couldn't be more happier with this phone. It's not perfect, but name me one that is.

I can agree with the OP on several of the things.

1. I shouldn't have to root my phone and install the leaked RUU for it to work properly.
2. Whoever said "You knew what you were getting yourself into when you bought this phone" you are ******ed because we were not told that the speakerphone volume would be low, there would be tons of problems between 4G/3G/1x handoff, poor connection/dropped connections, extremely horrible battery life and numerous other problems.
3. When the phone works, this phone works amazingly. I went back to my bb for a day and came right back to the bolt but if I still had my droid X, I probably would have went back to that. I am on my 3rd bolt and all of them displayed the same problems.
4. I'm not sure how people get good battery life out of this phone but if I unplug at 8am I will be at around 30% by 1:30, which is not acceptable. 20 minutes worth of voice calls and 22 text messages, this is both for rooted and unrooted and with 4G off even though I am in a 4G area.

There is so much room for improvement with this device and Verizon and HTC are dragging their feet greatly with this in hope they can just phase this phone out and not deal with any of us. I am a dissatisfied with this HTC product and it will greatly influence my decision on an HTC device in the future.

LTE is legit
The kickstand is legit
Verizon call quality is legit

I CANT WAIT TO GET MY THUNDERBOLT AT 1030 am tomorrow morning :) F the Iphone, and I just may keep my amazing Hinc (unless someone wants to buy a rooted phone in excellent condition, wink wink) if I want to go back... but I am willing to be a grandfathered labrat.... Bring it on HTC and verizon.... :)

I went from INC to Bolt, you're going to be very happy.

i admit, it is frustrating at times.

but YOUR thunderbolt sucking doesn't mean every Thunderbolt sucks or experiences your data connectivity issues.
yes, a group of users are experiencing that problem--but it's a 1st generation LTE phone. we all knew what we were getting into when we bought the phone. we're labrats for this--but we're compensated by being grandfathered into unlimited LTE data (supposedly).
sorry you're having trouble-- but,
i love mine.
i get constant 4g, constant signal, good battery life (tweaks, tweaks!), and the screen is awesome.

and the 32GB card? yowza. originally i thought it was just something to draw you in to overlook certain shortcomings on the phone (battery, initially--or the 1.2 processor), but once you know how to work the phone it really comes alive and is fully beneficial. i've got so many shows & movies--and songs on this thing it's insane. i'm never bored b/c i have this media powerhouse in my pocket.

and yes, the update was delayed. but the RUU was leaked--and you can flash it to fix your connectivity issues. tons of people have, and pretty much anyone who has reports that it fixed any problem (GPS, Camera, data, 4g-3g handoff). it's a simple flash, you can find instructions in this forum pretty easily.

sorry you're having trouble. did you create a user account JUST to post this? (referencing your 1 post count quantity) just curious :)

hope you enjoy---whatever you move on to. as for the rest of us in this forum--we'll find ways to make it work and reap the benefits!

I could agree with everything you said. But the new Radio sucks. Yes it was worse than the old one I had. Verizon has not been able to fix my 4g connection issues in my home area for 2 months. I get great coverage everywhere else but at home it sucks. I cant get stable 4g signal at all and I am in the dead center of 4g coverage. Is it my phone no, is it verizon keeps on lying to me about the ticket is being worked on? yea, probably.

The new radio was just crap, it even made my 4g signal worse everywhere else. Although the software part has been stable other than the radio.

There is a reason verizon is delaying the droid charge, because the LTE network is not up to the task. I think verizon shot themselves in the foot when they decided to lick up to iphone and started ramping up their 3g network to handle iphone 4 and took all the resources off from 4g, according to black_man_x.

its not the phone it is verizon who failed to make sure their network is ready to handle the demand of 4g. I don't even think it is HTC's fault for radio problems when verizon is still having issues with LTE.

you know I want to love this phone but I just have more problems then I want to admit, the data connection is getting worse every day it seems.

And to the person saying this is a great phone because it makes phone calls, please.....people need to get off that argument, I did not buy this to make phone calls, ya it does that also but I didnt pay this much money to just be able to make phone calls

hopefully the reason the ota update was pulled is that it's being rolled into GB, and that it's coming soon. we have the premium we all paid and the size of the user base on our side. i think we'll get a decent update soon

well they were talking about gingerbread coming out in June time frame, it is not too long now. I hope they will do that. HTC already has released gingerbread for some of their phones in UK.

you know what, as much as I want GB like the rest of you, I would rather a more functional phone

Mine works great here in Seattle. Aside from the one day when the network was down, I have had no data issues. Sure, I could probably nitpick a few things, but overall it's been great.

I just want to say that I have had the thunderbolt for over a month now and it sucks. I mean it looks good and it is fast, but it cannot connect to the internet.

The data connection just craps out constantly. I used to have the g1 and the orignal droid; both phones were slower, but better than the thunderbolt. I used all three of these phones in the exact same locations. btw, the location is the middle of manhattan, so i can't imagine how crappy this phone is in other locations.

I called verizon and they said it is a known issue and that is was scheduled to be fixed May 3rd, but that the release was delayed. Anyway, bottom line is that thunderbolt was rushed to market with crap software.

It may be a great phone in a year or so, but right now the thunderbolt sucks. It is also HILARIOUS that all the gadget sites gave this phone good reviews. Just goes to show what a load of **** they are.

Sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with this phone. It is true there are some hiccups but what phone (smartphone) is completely problem-free? In spite of everything, I love my Thunderbolt... It rocks!!!

Odd, I have had no problems with mine at all. Only lost 4G signal once when the outage happened. Phone battery is good for me even in a 4G area. Internet speeds are super fast. Sounds like you are just unlucky or maybe need to have your phone swapped.

droid phones are released as beta products

I have to agree with the OP.
Verizon told us they wouldn't release the phone untill they could provide an excellent user experience.
FAIL.
I work in a solid 4g area and live in a 3g area and have data connection problems in both.
I started a trouble ticket with Verizon. That went nowhere. They repaced the sim card with no result, and now I'm waiting for a replacement device.
Replacing these devices makes no sense to me when they have stated the problem will be fixed with a future update/patch. I guess that's just their way of shutting us up.

I would like verizon to provide the device and service I pay for and I'm not willing to do thier jobs for them. i.e. Rooting and flashing, just so the device will perform as promised.

Excellent point!! This droid community seems perfectly satisfied to get a glitchy, half baked, not-ready-for-prime-time piece of equipment and then finish the job that HTC and Verizon started. What a great business and cost savings plan....and if the customer can't fix their product for them, they just release a new glitchy, half baked, not-ready-for-prime-time piece of equipment for them to play with - GENIUS!

This being my first droid phone, I was unaware of how the game was played.

Now that I know droid phones are released as beta products, to be tweaked and fixed by the androidcental community - I will (from now on) wait 6 months after the release of any new droid phone to see if the androidcental community can get it to work properly.

Nothing about the TB has been done right or on time. Expect the June GB release to be - like everything else TB - delayed.
