Thunderbolt sucks

I'm kind of in the middle on this topic. I love the Thunderbolt but I definitely find myself getting very frustrated at times. Mainly the handoff/data connectivity issues. I've always been an early adopter though so I know it is expected that there will be some issues. Most all issues are related to 4g. Anyone who got this phone and didn't expect some issues with a new network/technology really didn't do their homework. That doesn't give Verizon and HTC a free pass. If the issues aren't worked out soon then I will be disappointed in the device and Verizon.

Love my 'Bolt. The hand off issue only affects me on occasion, but nothing to get me upset about. I assume it will get fixed with the update(s). I play a lot of Angry Birds Rio at lunch and use the hot spot frequently (Until May 15 at least), so I usually charge my phone mid-day at my desk just to be sure it gets through -- it does. I believe that HTC and Verizon are committed to this phone; the have to be. If they don't have answers, they don't have the answers. I'd rather them say nothing than keep kicking the can down the road. If no update(s) come by July 1, then I'll revisit my opinion. Right now, this toy is the bomb!

My good/bad when it comes to this device..

1. It has been mentioned, this being the first ever LTE device there will be hiccups..

2. The update works alot better on the phone, all around performance is better, not that it was bad before.

3. SVDO on 3G..

Bad:

1. I hate how HTC makes an awesome device, only to overshadow the new release with something they could've added before (Sense 3.0 not coming to the Tbolt)

2. Where the F$#k is my damn charging dock?!?! I harass HTC daily over this, on FaceBook and Twitter. Good thing they don't have an office here in Boston!!

So yes, the good outweighs the bad in my case.. Everyone wants the "best", but the "best" is never what they expect it to be.

wow, some of you guys are clowns. The idea that I should have to install my own software(and risk breaking it and possibly violating TOS?) so that my phone will work is bonkers. Or that a company should be able to put out **** for "version 1" and that it is somehow my problem. If I pay for anything I have the reasonable expectation that it will work.

My personal favorite was the car analogy; it makes no sense whatsoever. To correct that analogy the car would have to be broken down on the side of the road instead of working correctly and obeying the speed limit.

Anyway, the update to the firmware today has resolved my issue immediately!

Plenty of people were happy with the performance of their phone without having to modify the software. Just because you weren't one of them doesn't mean that the phone sucks. That's a really selfish perspective.

I see that you are running a custom rom. I presume you did this because you wanted the additional options/flexibility a custom rom offers, since you are happy with the performance.

I, and others here, however are having serious issues with this device. Several people have suggested we root/flash to get the latest software and possibly solve our issues. I feel strongly that this is Verizon's responsibility. We purchased this device and expect it to work as advertised.

Verizon said they would not release the device untill they could provide an excellent user experience. Now that I've paid for it, I would like that excellent experience.

i think, as others have stated, a more fitting heading for this thread would have been "MY" thunderbolt sucks. . . because _mine_ certainly doesn't. I do hope you get yours up to your liking.

I live on the oregon coast, in 3g, and i'm continually amazed at my Tbolts ability to pull a signal and get on the net and surf when i have maybe 1 bar showing for 3g service in a given location.

I've had the Thunderbolt for over a year. Had to turn off 4g because it wasted my battery trying to stay connected. Now I find it hard to even get 3g. I seem to have 2-4 bars but 3g arrows won't show and forever to surf

I periodically remove the SIM card and the battery. Let the phone do a cycle through. It is good for the device
Call Verizon tech support too.

Bars indicate voice signal strength. If you want to see 3g signal strength, you need to go to Settings > About Phone. It should show 3g signal strength in db. There isn't a way to show 4glte signal strength in gb, but can be shown in ics.

Wow, talk about necroing a thread! LOL ;) :D

Not sure if you were asking for help or just dropping a rant, but Jude provided solid advice; try a power down and battery and SIM card pull for at least five minutes. This will allow the phone to reset and the SIM part will force it to re-provision itself on the network on next power up. This usually fixes most connectivity issues assuming you're back in a solid coverage area. It did sound like you were in a fringe coverage area causing the phone to go into overdrive to find/maintain a connection thus draining the battery. I think that's happened to all of us at some time or another.

Also, you may not be aware, but there has been an intermittent network issue since around the beginning of June where the data connection would drop in and out, sometimes not coming back unless you toggle mobile data, airplane mode, or worse case the battery and SIM pull. For a little more info on that see this thread:

I will say that the HTC Thunderbolt soured me to the HTC brand. It will be a long, long time before I will consider purchasing one again. 1.5 years is hell of a long time to make a bad impression.

It has been a decent phone till the screen started not responding. Now I have a replacement and its back to business as usual. As much as I am thrilled to have 4 g in my area now I made the choice to keep it on CDMA when I am at work. Days off not bothered. Battery lady's up to 14 hrs in 3 g for me...I use the resound battery. 4g hogs and its ready to die in 7 hours....3 g is still quick for me. Have been having network issues in AZ for awhile now. Hope it gets resolved. Been happening a lot.

If you need battery life, 3G is the way to go...but it's so nice to have access to 4G when you need it.

It's easy to keep it in 4G if you regular access to WIFI at work and home, but if you're stuck on mobile data at work it's probably best to switch over to 3G or keep a charger at your desk.

Right now, I work a job in an office that doesn't allow cell phones, so I don't have to worry too much about it.
