I got a little less that 5 hours yesterday from full change to 25% with the 2750 mAh battery. It was getting more like 11 hours just a few days before too, and I didn't really change anything.

My guess would be either weather or you were in a building with signal issues or a combination of the two. I see that a lot myself. I've never actually seen battery life that bad in the 2750 mAh battert personally, I went from battery down to anywere from 20-40% after 9-10hrs to just never even having to think about it with the new battery.

I was working in a metal hangar but I had been the days before as well. Weather was the same (wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity were all very similar). I half suspect that the battery indicator is lying to me, I can't believe that the battery life really dropped so much and to so low.

It's possible, you aren't using a task killer are you?

Respectfully disagree.

* As much as I love the Incredible it is slooooow compared to the TBolt (as an aside I was looking at a live Evo in the BB Mobile store earlier this afternoon and thoiguth the same thing about that)
* The Fascinate was super fast when I first got it but over time I've come to be really disappointed in the much hyped hummingbird processor. Mine locks up every time I upgrade more than about 4 apps at a time (with the upgrade all button)
* and the D2Global the biggest improvement I have seen with that one is battery life. It's really only marginally faster than the DImc.

Thunderbolt is all around fast, the processor itself and the 3G radio. Believe it or not the 3g data [wireless hotspot] is faster through that than my MyFi 220. As much as I was wowed by the DInc a year ago (coming from the Moto Droid) I was even more wowed by the TBolt.

i had my cousins DInc right next to my tbolt last week. honestly, any speed difference was hardly if even noticeable.

the fascinate... i didn't have that for very long. i just remembered that it had a bright screen and was pretty fast.

but what i am saying is normal use is very similar speed wise. updating is definitely faster on the tbolt but 4g plays a role there also. unlocking the phone, scroll notifications, reading and responding or just turning it on to make a call. all that is pretty much the same regardless of phone.

3g speed on my droid x is exactly the same as 3g on the tbolt. i cannot say for the other phones as i never ran speedtest on those. and honestly, the only thing on the tbolt wowed me was the 4g and that was a very big wow. i was getting speeds close to 10x and on average 4-6x.

everything else felt the same. now that i am back on my x i dont really feel any difference in speed either. i know it is definitely faster, and the only place i every noticed it was opening skyfire. it would give a blank screen for a little bit before loading the website.

you obviously did not have as well of an experience with your previous phones as i did so our opinions aren't going to exactly match. i'm glad you like your tbolt and hope it serves you well. its a great phone regardless.

also i didn't have that many apps on these phones as i had already played with all the new stuff. and if i downloaded something new, i would remove it after i was done. just didn't like having apps on it that i dont use i guess.

do you have an app that shows voltage? i use battstatt and that has voltage. that seems to be a very good indicator of the actual battery level.

Couldn't take the battery any longer, returned for an iPhone yesterday. Really don't like Apple, but they win this round. Hopefully by my next upgrade, HTC will have figured out how to make their phones last more than 1 day at most. Good luck to those that have kept it.

Never got my TBOLT. VZW turned me down. But since then, its been quite entertaining watching all of the treads sprout up about how awesome the TBOLT is, how much the battery sucks, all of the tips and tricks, the rooting threads, etc.

Do I still wish I would have got this phone? Yea kinda... I mean I've had my BB now for quite some time and its getting a bit long in the tooth... but would I have kept it? I doubt it. The battery issues are too much for me. I know it pans out in the long run, but I'm not down for neutering my phone just to squeeze more life out of it. And bump charging? No thanks. When I first bought my BB it had horrible battery life. I walked into VZW a few days after having it and said "this phone is supposed to be the latest and greatest (lol yea right) and I can't get through a full nights work doing most things on it... fix this POS now." For some reason, the replacement battery worked just fine and has done me well ever since. I didn't want to go through that hassle again.

Besides, not buying the BOLT has taught me a great deal in being patient :)

I will give that a try. Battery life today seems just as short and I've not been in a hangar or other kind of shielded all day.

The thunderbolt is going to have a short window of being the flagship phone and there are quite a few downsides when viewed from moving from tmobile (for example):

Of the three the only one I actively dislike things about is the Fascinate (well except the keyboard on the D2 but that has nothing to do with performance). I loved and still love the Incredible, is it just definitely showing it's age next to the TBolt.

I'm not remembering anything or borrowing anyone else's device. I have all 4 phones sitting right here and the difference is definitely VERY noticeable between the first two and the TBolt... just did another head to head with the D2G and the TBolt and yeah it is not as noticeable but the much better HTC browser gives it a definite edge in browsing.

Good luck with your choice.

This is true of every single phone. The Storm was replaced by the Droid, the Droid by the DInc, the DInc by the DX, the DX by Fascenate and then the D2Global, (the iPhone 4?), and now the TBot (each got maybe 2 months in the top spot depending on sales) and yes I am sure the Bionic, DInc 2, DX2, and the variant of the LG Optimoys X2 will all take their turns as flagship phones. That's just the nature of the business now. Verizon has made smart-phones a corporate priority (data plan fees are very lucrative after-all), and the OEM's are more than happy to accommodate them.

I'll be keeping it because I could never go back to a smaller screen. The battery life is horrible while 4G is activated though. I had to use the AnyCut application to create a shortcut that allows me to easily toggle 4G on and off. I would not be willing to dial that code (*#*#4636#*#*) each time I needed 4G to be on and off. I figure that even though 4G drains my battery so much that leaving it on 3G brings my life to a perfect spot. It's not like I need 4G on all day when I'm only idle or making calls.

1. You can use other apps like Yahoo Messenger. I persoanlly tested this from my TBolt to a PC...worked very well over 4G but did not work over 3G. There is also Fring, Tango and I think GTalk. I know, I cannot wait for skype myself because its something most people already use and most people do not want to adopt other apps just for you...
2. Get the extended battery, yea I know, it gonna cost you but its well worth it. I am getting 2 days on 1 charge.
3. Cannot comment on this...it always found where I am w/o issue.
4. As to most smartphones, there is a learning curve...

I don't know... I'm all for an extended battery but the added bulk kills it for me. I've heard that it makes it easier to hold when on a call but I like my phones in my pocket and that bulge seems very uncomfortable. :( Bring on the official slim extended batteries (HTC)!

Well, I'm going to attempt ROOT tonight, and I'll be in the ATL airport for a couple hours on Sunday on 4G service, so I'll put the device through it's paces this weekend. If I don't find it acceptable, I'll return it, reactivate the old reliable Storm 1, and buy the Blackberry Playbook in a couple weeks, and eventually, hopefully, a QNX Blackberry phone.

Definitely keeping. Any doubts I might have had were erased by downloading on my iPad through the bolt at 12 MBps while my wife was driving me to work. Only thing I really hate (can even deal with the battery) is the ugly touchdown interface after coming over from an iphone 4, but not looking back.

i wasnt borrowing. i was comparing speeds just for the ****s and giggles and it was identical. and i dont use the stock browser. skyfire on 3g loads faster than the tbolt with stock browser ever did. i did this test with multiple phones multiple times.

u're entitled to your opinion as i am to mine. you think the tbolt is a huge upgrade while i dont. to each their own. but unless everything between your phones were identical set up (besides hardware), then any statement made is really null and void.

everyone gets so touchy feely about their phones. you say it like i'm lying just to make the tbolt sound bad or something. look i loved the phone, i loved the 4g, i would have loved to keep it but i was getting around 5 hours of battery life so i had to return it. I'm sticking around the forum and continually reading up on the tbolt because there is still a chance i may come back to it esp if vzw decides to do tier plans before other 4g devices come out. so what if it wasn't my phone? was it still not a fair comparison? if you say no, tell me why. i had both phones in front of me doing the same thing and it was taking approximately the same time. he only had 3g at his location so even browser speeds were very similar.

and an update. I am back in Portland (no 4G service here) and the phone has been going all day off charger now and still has nearly a full charge. (7 am off charger, and it's 5 pm now).

A Newbie to TB/Android and Keeping It!!!!

After much anticipation, I made the switch from my Blackberry Storm 1 to the Thunderbolt. I debated heavily whether to go to the IPhone 4 or wait for the Motorola Bionic (yup, I'm a Verizon guy). After talking to some friends about their android phones, I knew that I wanted to give it a try. After two weeks use, I absolutely love this phone. Now, you gotta remember that I came from the Storm 1 so any new phone was going to be better than what I had. I knew going into the deal that there were issues with the battery and Skype and a couple of other things but I still took the plunge. I have no regrets.

In the last two weeks, I have traveled to Florida and Utah from Washington State and have experienced both 4G and 3G coverage. Both blow anything Blackberry has regarding speed. 4G is absolutely blistering. I downloaded a golfing application that worked perfectly on courses in Florida and Utah. GPS function is outstanding and the Google Navigation application has been spot on!!!. I just love the size of the screen and my teenaged kids are absolutely jealous. Messaging and e-mailing are a snap and love how I can sync my contacts and calendars from my google account. It's been fun using the Widget feature to fill my screens with some pretty cool applications.

So now for the cons and to be honest they are challenging. Even so, I still will not give this baby up.

Battery: This has been my number one issue as well. I've gone to all the forums and tried many of tips given. The best tip so far for me has been to use WiFi. The performance of the phone is still excellent and has given me 25%more life. Other tips like reducing the frequency of updates/syncs can help but the WiFi has made the biggest difference. I'm fortunate that I have very good WiFi at work and at home. Without some of the recommended changes, the best I got was around 10 hours (under 4G usage). If I used my golf application, I was lucky to get 6 hours. If I kept it on 3G then I could add an additional three or fours hours. The one thing I did was get an extra battery (not the extended life pregnant one). It has been a big help when I ran out of juice on the golf course. I wish someone would have a dependable external charger. I have not seen a separate one yet.

Screen: Although the screen size is wonderful, it is hard to see it out in the sun. I have it turned all the way up (I try to keep it on low to save battery life) but it's still hard to see it.

E-Mail: Not as user friendly compared to the Blackberry. I'm still trying to figure out all the settings but I have been able to set up three different accounts and it's working fine.

Being new to the Android System and HTC I can in no way compare like phones. However, as a first time user of this type of technology, all I can say is, "WOW, what a great device!!!" It has been a lot of fun just playing with it and making sure my kids don't get their hands on it. The camera and video features are extremely cool. I really love the stand and hope that they will get the Skype feature to work soon enough. I love the OverDrive application which allows me to download books from my local library for free. There are so many "widgets" and applications to choose from that it is difficult to get any work done. The positives far outweigh any of the negatives and will stick with this, at least fore the next cycle. :)

I bought my TB 8 days ago. I had an HTC Ozone previously - a BB knockoff. I'm getting older and said no to a touchscreen when I bought that, having had the LG Voyager and hated that touchscreen. But the Ozone, though an OK phone, was teensy in the screen and I'm older and I wanted a bigger screen.

Time for my early upgrade and I read the reviews of the TB and heard about the bad battery life. Still, I love the look of it and spent time on the Amazon Android App store drooling over a lot of the apps. Got it and I am in LOVE with this phone. The touchscreen has come a long way since the Voyager. The screen is big even by my eyes and I love doing email and texting. I live in a 3G area. Work technically is a 4G area, but it goes in an out. Downloaded LTE On/Off today and switched off the 4G.

Love the apps and widgets. Switch to WiFi at home as my network is faster than the lower home signal from Verizon. Music player works great. Gave my MP3 player to my daughter. The camera rocks!

The TB is everything I wanted in a phone. Did the battery shock trick listed in another thread and now I'm getting a full day of moderate use on the stock battery. And the phone is made perfectly. Haven't decided if I'll root yet as I'm not sure I'm all that brave.

What's the battery shock trick? Is it the same as bump charging?
