Time not auto updating when driving to a different time zone

Nexus 5x on Verizon.

When I drive into a different time zone, the phone will not update its time automatically, even though my settings clearly indicate that I have it set to "automatic date and time" and "automatic time zone".

I have to either reboot the phone or put it into airplane mode and then out of airplane mode for it to switch to the correct time zone.

How do I fix this? This was never an issue with any other device I had on Verizon.

Has anyone been able to solve this? Is it fixed in Nougat?

I'm about to drive to a different time zone, so I guess I'll find out.

I'm also running a 5X on Verizon but have not changed time zones since I got the phone so I can't be of much help. I will be interested in finding out what you learn though.

I had this issue with my Nexus 6P on Verizon. It turned out that the automatic setting was turned OFF! I had been overseas not long before, and I had turned the setting off because it wouldn't set the time zone correctly. I had forgotten to turn it back on when I returned home.

That said, when it was turned on I've not had issues with it. It has worked like it should.
