Tips: Get faster camera focus (less blurry photos)

For all the folks complaining about the camera, seriously in every test it barely misses the quality of the Google Pixel in auto mode in many tests that I've seen. It's still one of the top cameras out the box and better in manual mode.

I'm beginning to believe that there are differences between individual copies of this phone.

A lot of is aren't conparing it to the google pixel. We are comparing it to a 2 year old lg g4 that many feel performed better.

And tests can say and report whatever they want, if the photo quality isn't what an owner wants, the tests are meaningless.

Understood but I think when they compare it to the pixel they are using it as an index since the Pixel has good ratings. Having said that I understand that you have a specific situation that is giving you poor results. The puzzling part is that not everyone has a bad experience with the V20.

There aren't "lots", or "many" people who are complaining, there are a couple people, you included, who are very vocal in this thread.

Let's simmer down on the hyperbole here.

Further, review sites and comparisons almost all have very good things to say about this phone's camera, and these people are comparing against the Pixel and other flagship phones.

Exactly. Every phone has detractors who are very vocal. I've seen what the phone does with my minimal camera experience, and I've seen the wicked shots you have in the pictures thread.

I believe the Pixel is the best auto mode phone camera out there, but I also believe the difference between it and the other great camera phones is razor thin.

So you believe in all of phone land this thread is the only place where "just a few" people have issues with the camera? Nowhere else in the world, huh? Ive also noticed a theme in most threads, someone will post a photo problem they are having, and 5 people will post a photo in completely different settings or circumstances and say..."no problems here with mine" which simply doesnt address the issue being discussed

No need to simmer down, as im truly not angry, simply disappointed. I was looking for personal results, and they aren't here with this phone, and as ive stated, im baffled how the same company can introduce a camera a few years after having an amazing one, and take a step back.

Here are some stage lighting shots from my V20 all auto.

A lot of things impact photos where stage lighting is present. The intensity of the light, the lighting color, the amount of ambient light and the distance from the stage just to name a few. That's image quality without mentioning motion blur because the camera uses the wrong ISO or Shutter speed in auto based on all the data points the camera is set to analyze. The biggest drawback with auto mode is that there is only one auto mode setting as opposed to a point and shoot camera or DSLR. I recommend forgetting the auto setting and going full manual in this situation for anyone who is having trouble in situations like this.

The number of people who visit a phone forum is a fraction of a percent of phone owners. This thread has no statistical relevance for either side of the conversation.

I haven't posted in this thread until now but I've seen the same purple hue or tint in pictures in 2 situations that I can recall: outside at night taking pictures of full moon and in some caverns a few weeks ago. When it happened I either closed the camera app and opened it back up or I changed the focus point and the purple went away. No idea what caused it but it's not something that ever happened on G2, G3, G4, V10, Note 7 or my GF's G5.

That said, I've also snapped some great full auto pictures in those same situations.

I think the V20 has a great camera but it's not the best for full auto, take it out of your pocket, point and shoot photo takers.

For the most part this thread has gone off topic: Tips: Get faster camera focus (less blurry photos)

I have not complaints about the camera. I was just providing some samples. As a semi-serious photographer, I find it annoying when people expect DSLR quality from cell phones. As I have owned every phone in the LG G series (Optimus G thru G5), I can say that going back and comparing images, the G5, G5, and V20 all take great pictures. Sure there differences in the processing of the images, but the same can be said for the DLSRs that I have owned (all Nikon).

As do a lot of threads. But I'll change the statement.

The entire V20 subforum represents a fraction of a percent of phone owners and has no statistical relevance.

BTW...I wasn't implying that you were taking it off topic.... Just an observation. Your original statement is true and I guess we could say that of any forum here.

Ive tried to close and open the camera, multiple times, also attempted it at 4 different venues, both auto and manual. just didnt cooperate. As you said, and i agree...it was never an issue with the g2, g3, or g4. So simply can't understand the changes that were made with the sensor. Thats my only gripe.

Correct Mike. Thats what burns me up. And ive used manual with the G4 and people actually raved about my various concert shots. Every show. Ive done four concerts recently with the V20, and they were a ghostly mess. I can't explain my disappointment.

I'd have to go back and look at your other photos because the 2 that I see in this thread don't like resemble each other in shape, size or distance. I'm thinking there has to be something wrong with your specific camera. Most of the low light issues have been with regard to motion blur and in some cases complaints about grainy photos. Shutter speed obviously helps with motion blur and lowering the ISO usually takes care of the grain. Trick is to have the right combination. Your picture sample in this thread is bad in all aspects. It is so bad I'm going to say its the worst V20 photo I've seen.
