Tired of bad reconditioned phones...

How many times does Verizon have to replace a phone before they replace with a new one? Two weeks ago, Verizon replaced my son's DroidX because the home button stopped working. The replacement was much worse. The screen would start flickering so badly that it was unusable. They are sending him another reconditioned phone this week. I had this same issue several years ago with reconditioned Motorola Razr phones at AT&T, and they eventually replaced it with a new phone. Do they even test these things, or is it cheaper for the carriers to just let their customers test them for them?

There was a program in place that would allow a supervisor to send the customer a new phone after 3 defective reconditioned phones. That program was cancelled in Jan of last year, all they can send out are reconditioned phones.

I have had mine replaced 4-5 times for BT connectivity issues, and I have escalated the calls up to the accm (assistant call center manager). The only good part I s they will send you as many reconditioned phones as they need to till your son gets a good one.

I had issues with my S2 where I went through 11 of them, all with the same issue. They won't do anything except send you replacement phones. After so many replacement, they wanted me to go to a store and the store heard my store, made a test call to make sure that the speaker was really blown and they got me another one. I was in and out in less then 30 minutes.

Wow, that is very disheartening. Thanks for the info. Hopefully this one will be ok. I really hate having to wait then worry about sending the old one back.

Speaker on the earpiece went bad and it gets muffled and static to the point I have trouble understanding the other person. I know someone with the same BB and has gone through a few of them as well. Same issue.

It's hard to believe 11 of them had the bad speaker.

Had the same thing happen with my OG Droid. I went through 7 phones all in all with problems that ranged from screen flickering, the phone randomly pressing buttons and sending text out, ect..

The last one pushed me over the edge due to the fact I had the referb for less than 30min and the reception/call quality was so bad I had to call verizon CS with the wifes phone cause I couldent hold a conversation on mine.

After about 1 1/2 hrs on the phone with CS and getting the run around from various "managers" I said the magic words, "I want to cancel my service." After that I was offered a refeb X with out having to renew my contract. I took it and am having little problems, but not enough to take it back.

Bottom line, Referbs suck no matter how good VZW says they are

That's because so many of the refurbs had worse issues than the phones being replaced. If you receive a refurb that had water damage, that phone will ALWAYS have issues. I would rather have my original phone with small issues than someone else's headache.

If you push hard enough after you've gotten a few refurbs they will send you a new phone.

I went through 7 BB Tours in less than a year due to various issues. I finally got a CSR to offer me a new one. I told him I was sick of the issues with the Tour and asked for a Bold, since it was pretty much the exact same phone. He tried but his manager wouldn't let him. However, he pushed my upgrade date up a couple months so I could get the X. :)

The policy was after 5 referbs they would send you a new one but in the last few months it got changed to 10 referbs before you get a new phone...

A friend of mine had issues w/ her DINC and after going through 4 phones in about 3 months they ended up sending her out a refurbished DX. She had the X for about 2 days and was having issues with it and had gone into a store and they told her they could get her another Droid X but it would be refurbished as well which she agreed to. She ended up calling a CSR that evening and was crying on the phone about it to them and they moved her upgrade date up more than a year. They told her not to even worry about sending back to the refurb Droid X that they were sending her. She went into a verizon store and got an iPhone 4. Happy ending to this story is that when they sent her the first refurb DX they sent her an extended battery with it that she gladly sent me at no charge once she got her iPhone 4 :)

Wrong.

The Multi Fru options was removed because of people abusing it. Now the CLNR process has changed again were you can get charged for returned phones if there is physical damage, why, because people were abusing it. To the OP, you may be able to speak with a manager to make an exception but you are only entitled to the same phone you purchased. You can always send the phone to Motorola to fix.

Didn't want a different phone, just one that works. The third one works fine. He's happy. I still have my original DroidX that I bought in July of last year. I am very easy on my phone...always in a case in my pocket. Not a scratch on it. I learned a long time ago that the insurance is the biggest scam. Assurion is one of the only companies that has worse customer service than Dell and Verizon.

I was on the Fascinate and was pretty much happy but a couple of weeks ago they sent 2 replacements that were bad prior to that 2 when i got first got the phone last year, so instead they sent me a droid X to try out the first one was overheating badly and a piece of plastic around top speaker kept falling off. I got another one that would not turn on so they sent another X and this one has an issue with the camera showing static on the screen iv reset the phone with no change. Honestly i am getting tired of this crap i cant restore apps with a crappy phone. The camera on the fascinate was so much better including the 720p recording. They gave me an early upgrade, i wanted the charge but still waiting because its delayed, i did check out the TB but too heavy and wrong place to put a charging port.

I have to agree with the quality of the refurbs...my first one had the vibrating earpiece issue. Now the one I hae ve has the intermitent disconnect wifi/3G issue and that truly irritates me. All this talk about data costs, tiered data, etc....well dammit then STOP dropping my wifi signal or making me have to turn airplane mode on and off to get 3G to work again.

I'm also experiencing SMS/MMS failures lately though less inclined to think that's a hardware issue since I didn't always have the problem.

Point is...I expected a perfectly functioning Droid X and still don't have one.
