Tired Wi-Fi Help....

Anyone know of an app, setting or some other thing I can try to get the wi-fi on my tab 10.1 to refresh or wake up or ... I don't even know what to call it.

The problem isn't connecting, I connect fine. But if I leave with my tab, head to the office until I press the power button to wake the tab it won't reconnect to the remember wi-fi network at work. And, when I head home, I walk into the house and I could sit the Tab on top of the wi-fi modem and if I don't press the power button it won't reconnect. As soon as I press the power button to wake the tab it searches for a wi-fi network and connects.

I've set it to never turn off wi-fi, I've found an app that's suppose to keep it on but nothing works. It stays connected and pulls data if I don't leave the network I'm currently on but once I've left, it won't try to find a new network unless I wake it.

It never did this on my 7.0 Tab, it would connect the moment it saw a network - asleep or not. Help, it's so frustrating.

Did you ever find a fix for this? My wife's GT is doing the same thing. She solves it by shouting Honey I am not connected. :D

i have a different problem - mine will connect to my work wi-fi automatically and do fine for 1st half of the day. after lunch, the icon turns grey instead of blue and while it shows excellent connection, it will not pull any data from that network. even restarting doesn't help, although my both of my phones will connect to the same network and stay connected without any issues.

at home i have no problems with my n network at all.

Hmmm... This is not indicative of my experience at all. I usually get home, throw my tab on the dresser and by the time I change out of my monkey suit I am getting email notifications.

Have you tried calling Samsung tech support?

I have the "won't connect until screen on" issue as well. although, I figure this is a double edged sword. either you get it to auto connect all the time, and it drains battery faster; or you have current scenario and battery doesn't drain as fast with screen off... just theories no proof.

I also have a different wifi issue, only experienced it on my parents wifi network. when I turn off screen and leave it for a while, then come back, wifi says no internet connection, and it never tries to reconnect by itself. I have to go into wifi settings, disable wifi, (takes about 30 seconds), then re-enable. it then connects back to their wifi without issue. at my house, I don't see this, maybe a difference in setup, or security settings... and, I'm not too worried since I'm not there all that often.

Reading the replies really makes me wonder what hidden settings are in in Honeycomb and not working properly. Lately, the WiFi will now reconnect when I get to the office but when I go home, it still waits for me to unlock the tablet.

I did notice that once, just once, it actually woke up about a half hour after I got home. Suddenly, I hadn't touched it since I left the office, email started to flow in and notifications started sounding off. Since then, it's never happened again.

It seems like a weird timing issue or 'fail after so many attempts' type thing. I haven't called support, I doubt there will be much they can tell me as this looks like a software issue. Reading the replies does further indicate some odd timing/fail issue is going on and just like my tablet, it effects people differently. I wonder if it could be use, meaning, how much email, notifications and other things are going on with the tablet that might trigger it to wake up and start cycling for a connection. Or perhaps certain things are more aggressive about making the tablet try again, email just silently fails and is happy with no connection but maybe something else isn't so polite and makes the tablet try again?

I'll be paying special attention to this issue... I think you may be right that it is timing out after a number of failed attempts and afterwords only checks intermittently for a new signal. But if that was the case you most definitely should be able to tweak how often it checks in settings....

I wouldn't be surprised if they put this in as a battery saving feature, but you should have control over it if that's the case.

Hopefully someone that solved this issue joins the discussion soon, I'm very curious about this problem.

Something else that I keep thinking about is that with my original Tab, the smaller one, it had the Mobile network to switch to when WiFi wasn't around. It never failed to reconnect or switch. I'm wondering, since this is the first real just WiFi Android Honeycomb tablet, that there may be a logic flow somewhere in the OS that doesn't understand that if no mobile network exists, keep trying to use the WiFi.

But again, that doesn't make sense as others have pointed out above, their issues are different or don't exist at all. Which leads me to think that some app that I don't have which someone does might be a bit more aggressive at keeping the network connection live or waking up the process that controls the network.

Just so more to ponder. I agree with your other point, they probably do have some battery saving thing in there that is acting weird even though I told it I want it always on.

Has anybody tried using something like Gasket or Drofiles to fix this?

Hmmm... I haven't, I will give those a try. I did try Wi-Fi Keep Alive and enabled all the options which seemed to make a difference for home but not work (though I am not sure that app really did it or I'm just suddenly partially lucky).

So I can confirm this happened to me last night. It's a minor annoyance but an annoyance none-the-less.

Hopefully we see a fix in 3.2.
