Just dl Titanium Backup. I get two popups from the app. Wants me to go to "Settings /Applications " and set two different things. There's no Applications under Settings on the G3. They're not talking about APPS, but Applications. See attached screenshots.

Any idea on this? Thanks.

OK, I was trying to find Settings\APPLICATIONS like they said.
Is it cool to leave "Unknown sources " on permanently? Doesn't seem safe. Why does this need to occur when it already has SU access?

OK
And what about this? Where, under Settings, is Developer/USB Debug?

same thing.. follow what it says and go do that. . they are just safety precautions to try and prevent someone from installing 3rd party apps and things that they are not aware of. since you are using TB you are aware. Normal to do those two things. .:)

I would uncheck unknown sources after you finish.
USB debugging is under "Developer options"
You have to do this to see developer options.

1.Pull down the notification Shade
2.Tap on the Gear icon
3.Tap on the “General” tab in Settings
4.Scroll down to “About Phone” and tap on it
5.Scroll down to “Software” and tap on it
6.Now tap on “Build Number” and tap it seven (7) times.
7.Now go back twice
8.And you should see “Developer Options” above Printing and About Phone.

Ahh yes. I remember that from quite some time ago-way before I was rooted You'd see my confusion, because they are not directing you this route at all.

The Unknown Sources warning in Titanium Backup is important to enable for restoring applications (not data) back to older versions or from one phone to another. The only thing this allows you to do (outside of Titanium Backup) is install apps downloaded from sources outside the Play Store. This is incredibly useful, especially if you are rooted like you are, to have enabled because there are all sorts of applications that are banned on the Play Store.

There is, of course, a risk involved here as you could potentially install an application you don't want. But typically you are not going to say yes to install an application that you did not specifically download. And don't worry, applications cannot install themselves unless you say that you want to install them. This is basic security in Android. The other part of this is you could download an applications hat you really want, like [redacted] but it could be a virus application in disguise. Rule of thumb here is to only download applications from known, verified sources (Like the XDA Forums, etc).

The USB Debugging option is not required to be enabled to use the normal features of Titanium Backup. Ignore this until you cannot do something in Titanium Backup.

I normally leave "Unkown sources" unchecked for a bit more safety. But if you're going to restore something in TiBu, you may need to enable it. But I've restored several older versions of apps over top of newer versions that caused problems, and had no problems doing so even with Unknown sources unchecked.

I think that entire message, like the instructions it contains, may be a legacy from older versions.
