To Leather or not to leather?

I will just say this...if you are going to use a bulky defenfer case why get the leather version? You will never see or feel it anyway...So you go for the plastic instead. Leather version just needs a good quality clear case to enjoy it

Because those of us who use them take are phones out if it when not needed. At least in my case. I only have the phone in the case when I'm at work. I manage a dairy farm so dust and drop protection are a must for me. If I'm going out and on days off the phone comes out of the case I get to enjoy the leather back.

Definitely it depends on the type of work you are into...however in most times bulky cases are very difficult to take them off

I saw the leather version at the store and thought it looked sweet. I wouldn't put a case over it. So, if a case is needed, why not just go for a cheaper plastic back that will definitely fit into a case?

Depends on variant. Verizon sells leather and plastic at the same price, so why not go with leather?

I didn't know that. That's interesting that AT&T has two different prices between the models and Verizon does not.

I like the leather too, but I think it would be really strange to have a leather back and put a case over it. Even with the transparent, the leather looks strange and you can't feel it. It kinds of remind me of the vinyl furniture cover in the old days.

If I use a leather back cover, I will probably use a real bumper case. And I don't think I would worry about cracking. Leather is used for chairs, clothing, wallets, purses, shoes, and those usually last much longer than a smartphone's life span. :p

I have the T-Mobile brown leather on my Verizon G4. I use the leather naked most of the time but if I think I'll need a case, the 10 buck TPU case from BB works like a charm. I forget the name of the case though.

Leather, without question.

While using that back I won't use a case, and this will be the norm for me (and abnormal in the grand scheme of things for me).

I got an OEM grey metallic back from Amazon. It was expensive (80 bucks) but it fits the two cases I have, a Diztronic and a genuine leather portfolio case. I find the plastic back very slippery (but I'll always use a case with it when I use that back).

The black leather backs are significantly less expensive than the other colors (leather or plastic) via eBay/Amazon.

Other than a red leather back, I'm set. Probably a record for me for fewest cases ever.

At the moment, the BOGO offer through LG is the best price for the colored leather backs. I want red, but I can't decide which other color to get, since none of them are really colors I'll use (if the blue were royal that'd be better for NY Giants season, our school district colors for our daughter's basketball games, etc.). I'm left thinking things like, "well, I could use the pink one for Breast Cancer Awareness Month."

Even for free I'm struggling. Wish they had brown, or even black as an extra backup.

No leather for me. Pick the gold plastic (cover it with spigen case) since I work with dusty environment. Look at dummy phone and saw the leather one. Looks premium but it won't last long, specially for me.

Definitely go with leather. You will love the feel of it.

Using the black leather one here and it's just so.....NIIIICE.

Just got the G4 with the gray plastic back, but now I am thinking I should have gone leather. Ok, I'll just order one from LG. Nope. Black (the only color I want) is not available.

So two questions:

1. Is it possible to buy a genuine OEM black leather back?
2. Should I exchange the phone for the black leather back? - I have about 8 days left on the 14 day return policy.

I am leaning toward exchanging since I will more likely be able to find a gray plastic back on ebay or the forums than black leather. Anybody have any feedback on their leather back?

Thanks!

It depends. Are you going to put it in a case? If so, don't get the leather back. If not, get the leather back.

The $9 Insignia case from best buy fits well over my leather when I'm at work.

This is probably the best case too. Cheap (price) and the clear one still shows off the leather backing.

Or those that complain about hiding the leather back, this phone is slippery. I need some type of case to grip the phone better.

I got mine with the brown leather back from T-mobile. I love it, BUT, I also love having a case on my phone and protecting it. 3 days into ownership of this phone, I sadly dropped it in the driveway... My screen didn't crack, BUT it marred up two of the corners slightly. I was just sick from it.
I keep it in a clear back case where I can SEE the leather, but don't feel it. I'm waiting on a true bumper for this phone so I'll be able to feel that leather again.
I'd say if you are REALLY set on that leather back, go exchange your phone.

I am using the ceramic back -- I thought about buying a leather back but since I have it in a case for the kick-stand.. don't see a point :).

It depends. If you view a phone (in part) as a fashion accessory, and like the look of the leather, go for it. I primarily view my G4 as a tool, and even thought I'm careful with my phone, going caseless isn't consistent with preservation of the phone.

Yeah it's a tough call.... I'm OK with replacing the back or the glass screen protector if I damage it but those edges are a different story.
