To upgrade or not?

Seems like the general consensus is that the ICS upgrade has major flaws with instability (Gmail) and reboots/loops. I talked my mom into a TF instead of an iPad2 and want to make sure I don't ruin her good experience so far.

Sounds like I'll keep her on Honeycomb until Asus releases a fix.

Sounds like a good decision. The update is not worth the reboot problems and I wish I had not upgraded at this point. When Asus does, and they will, fix this problem, it will be awesome.

Agreed. I can imagine it takes great patience to hold off of enjoying the goodies with ICS, but it's really frustrating dealing with the instability.

It's hard to tell from the forums whether many are experiencing the problems, or just a small group, but I surely am. I just wish that ASUS would announce some kind of acknowledgement of the issue/s and some idea of what they intend to do about it.

If you do succumb to the temptation to upgrade before a true fix is distributed, I would advise that you always power down the unit completely if you expect to be away for an extended period. I would also install the simple app Reboot Logger to track stealth reboots that slip under the radar. With my system, some reboots successfully complete, and others lock up. The second group is the one that ends up running the batteries down. The Reboot Logger app will give you a better perspective of the health of your system.

I'm much more pleased with ICS now. OK, there where some bumps on the road, but deleting Dolphin for Pad and Firefox Beta, solved for me the problems of the reboot.
ICS is much faster, more responsive and is a such a charm to work with.
I like my tablet more now.

The only problem i'm trying to solve now, is that is seems when using flash video in the browsers (any kind), the tablet doesn't respond well. But in the end, i can always use the youtube app.

While typing this messages, i really like the spell checker of ICS also.

my tf, purchsed a month ago sems to have had a lot of ics features (without being the full upgrade) already built in. that being said, i did not experience anything negative when i did the ics update. a little faster screen response but no big improvements to the "android experience".

though the tablet is a different experience than using a phone, i havent found ics to be a really big jump over 2.3. just diferent.

as for ipad...my mom has one and though she is happy enough she is a little frustrated by how lockex down it is and how she cant customize some, things.
my personal experience with it is...that its no better than android, just a different experience. that difference in experience quickly fades when one gets down to the core reason for having a tablet....what you do with it.
