Today is the 18th. WHERE'S MY FROYO!!!

I just went to the Verizon Store next to my building and they said the update will start today and go through September 3rd...pretty weak. I don't understand why it's going to take so long.

LoL you just think it along time because your waiting for it kinda like watching the clock tick time off.

Pfft its only a few more days at most , at least we know its going to happen ,,,,,, wait or do we  , LOL hmmm we can only hope

True...I suppose it's just because I'm used to when BlackBerry would update their systems (I got the Droid Incredible less than a month ago). When BB had updates, they would allow everyone to upgrade at once. I just don't understand why this is a rolling upgrade...what's the motive?

Its a slow rollout so it is not going to get sent to everyone's phone the same day (probably so its not overloading the network and if there are updates going on for other devices at the same time). I'm actually surprised it will be that short of a span (if its true).

sorry for this stupid question....I really am, but

I rooted using unrevoked3. First, will I get this OTA? Second, will everything install correctly? I understand I will lose root, but I"m sure devs will find a way around this soon enough.

Thanks.

BB updates are only available to everyone at once if you're downloading to your PC and installing the update via desktop manager, because you're not using your carrier's bandwidth to update. OTA updates for BB's are rolled out in batches too.

This is why I made that thread that was moved to Hacks and ROMs. I believe if you've just rooted using unrevoked3 that you will get the OTA update, but you will lose root and might not be able to get it back unless you apply unrevoked Forever or until unrevoked4 comes out that roots 2.2. I haven't rooted, but I've heard that this OTA might try to block the rooting process so I'm thinking about doing uForever now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I have heard the same thing, but if using UR FOREVER, it seems like you have to then go through another process in order to properly receive OTA's. I don't think I have the knowledge (Bullocks) for this!

Without going RUU way, is there an option to download and install instead of OTA? Just curious i am a complete n00b with Android stuff... Without Rooting, and still have it be an official update.

I'm guessing no, otherwise everyone would go that route rather than "im"patiently waiting for the phone to display that beautiful alert notification.

There are a lot of reasons for it, including the one you mentioned. It also saves VZW some money as they don't have to worry about massive pulls from their host servers. If they are in-house, then it can save them a lot in regards to the servers they're running (also why its a phased rollout, as not to crash their servers). If its remote hosting (doubtful, but possible), it will save them on the usage charges.

Yeah I dont think there is any other way to get the "official " version either .I saw on tweeter awhile ago there still was no eta for when it was suppose to start now .(link on AC main page)

OTA Update Notification

Will we get some sort of notification on our phone when we are selected to get the update. I'm talking about a sound or light blinking to tell us to check and download update! I don't want to have the phone "on" all day(is standby OK)?

Pacific Northwest.. Froyo has landed. Update started to download at 10am(pst) and took about 15 minuets to be fully up and running.
