Too Old For Android.

Ok, just had to jump into this age thing! I am 55 years old and female to boot. (which is another strike against me in most geekozoid's minds probably, haha) But I am an anomaly in that I am the one every one in my office runs to when they have a tech problem! I love gadgets and all things that go "beep." All that to say I always laugh when I hear the question "am I too old for Android?" Or too old for anything else for that matter!

I have always had Androids until my last phone, which was a Windows 8 device. I would say Windows phones are somewhere in between iPhone and Android on the ability to customize. I am on Verizon and now have the Ultra, which is a different form factor than the Moto X but same otherwise for the most part. I briefly, and I emphasize briefly, thought about the new iPhone C but thank God I didn't go that route! My daughter (the Verizon employee) just got it after only having Androids and I can't believe how small it looks to me! I would have hated it. I absolutely love the vast customization you can do with Android and that is what I missed most while on Windows 8. I loved the look and fluidity of WP, but missed so much of Android. It was like coming home to have an Android phone again!

I think you would have some adjusting to do, coming from an iPhone. But that has nothing to do with your age. If you are at all the kind of person who loves new things and doesn't mind learning them (and in fact ENJOYS learning something new and finds it stimulating) then you will love coming to Android and a new Moto X. If you don't like having to deal with change and want to stay comfortable with the familiar, then you'll hate it. But that's true for everyone, not just the "old folks!" LOL!

AND P. S. SwiftKey is fantastic! Best app ever!

I read every post in this thread and most things about the Moto X have been mentioned.
I think you will find this phone pretty easy to learn on as it's pretty much stock android .
I haven't had an iPhone but coworkers have them and I am familiar with.
It may take a while to get use to android but once you do you will probably like it better then apple .

Touchless Controls

I'm about to turn 62 and have been using Android devices for about 3 years now and not about to even consider iOS. You'll be fine and the Moto X is a good choice, although there are larger screen size devices available.

I am going to throw my Vote for the Moto X. Best android phone I've used so far. I am sure I will try a Nexus 5, G2 or Note 3 in the next couple months as well.
(used iPhone for last several years, tried many android phones, kept going back to iPhone. Moto X made me sell my iPhone yesterday.)
I will go back to iPhone soon as they pull their heads out of their bung and make a 5"+ screen on the phone.

I agree with a previous post that if you are willing to lean and put the time in, then the moto x will be a great phone for you. My dad wanted to switch from iPhone to the moto x but has a short fuse when it comes to learning new things. He needs a"taken by the hand approach" to learn.

I suggested him to stay with iPhone and go with the 5s. he got the moto x. 48 hours later he switched to the 5s. He really loves some of the things I can do with the moto x, but did not have the time or patients to learn it.

The iPhone is the jitter bug of the smart phone world.

I am a 59 year male (old school) that has been using IPhones since day one. Actually, used to use a Motorola bag phone back in the day. Anyway, I am intrigued with the android phones. I currently use the IPhone 4S but would really like to make a change. I primarily use my phone to talk, listen to music (Sirius, Pandora, Spotify) when I run/workout and also Bluetooth in the car. Will use the internet for driving instructions and just normal web surfing.

My question is am I too old to make the switch and should I just stick to the easy to use IPhones? If not, of the androids, would the Moto X be my choice? As you can see, my use of the phone is very simple. Don't need a lot of bells an whistles. But would like to try a new position (lol).

Any comments or suggestions would be most appreciated!!

Maybe it's just me, but I found some stuff on the iPhone actually harder than on Android. The Settings app is one thing I'm annoyed with.
Google Play Music and Books are pretty simple. For $10 a month Play Music can stream music with both radio's and any song they have you will have access to on demand. And yes Pandora is on Android, same with Shazam (Which some people think Android dosent have ). Spotifiy is also a pretty good streaming app, more music is on there, but they added a 11 hours a month limit. Either Tunein or rdio will play music by what mood you want (forgot).
Stock Android has been plenty simple, it works and its amazing, more so than touchwiz. The Moto X has the smoothness. And if you want REALY simple, theres this.
The Moto X by Motorola also features great cellular/wifi radios in addition to the three mics make for pretty good calls, and the dimple on the back is amazing for calls. Chrome is great, and the new Safari is a copy of it.

Of all the great Android phones out now I'd recommend the Moto X since it is a similar size as the iPhone 5/5S but still has a great screen size; or maybe the Nexus 5 if you're willing to wait. Having a stock Android phone will make the transition a whole lot easier than if you were to go with something like the S4 or HTC One which have custom skins.

I agree with you, the settings in iOS is a lot less organized than stock Android. iOS 7's Quick Toggles also pale in comparison to Android's since you it is has pre-set toggles. I also hate that you can't hold the Wi-Fi icon and be taken into the Wi-Fi settings. Just my 2 cents

May I ask why the dimple has anything to do with an "amazing" call?

My dad is 74 and got his first smartphone a few months ago, he got the s4 and loves it. He's kinda a computer nerd anyway and picked up on everything very well

If you'd asked 35 minutes later, I'd have said yeah... way too old Seriously though, no. My father is 66 and just got his first Android. There have been a few strange questions, but if you can navigate a computer, they're pretty straightforward

Since "80 is the new 50", and since i myself am headed for the big "55", the answer is an unequivocal, "no way are u too old for anything, much less Android".

I personally would suggest the LG G2 for the ultimate Android experience, and quite frankly, with all the "How to Tips & Tricks" vids on youtube (preferably MINE- shameless plug :-*, there really isn't ANYTHING "too hard to learn" these days : )
