Hey Guys. I need the Verizon Gurus to help me out here. I was with Verizon way back in BlackBerry LaLa land. Went to AT&T and raped like 6-7 Android devices and now switched back to Verizon 2 months ago.

I want to try and get this Nexus, but really dont want to pay full retail. If I went to like RadioShack, Walmart or Best Buy, would they let me upgrade on my contract for the contract price of the phone? I would think thats like an early upgrade which I really dont have since I just got back with them 2 months ago. Anyone know of the best way I can go about this? Thanks guys.

I doubt it since you are only 2 months into your contract. Usually they will do it like if you are a month or two out from your contract ending but being that new to a contract they most likely wont.

Most likely will not happen? What phone do you have? You can always sell it to make up he difference so picking up a Nexus won't hurt your pockets as much.

If you're going to buy off contract, stay away from resellers. They normally charge $100 to $150 more than corporate stores.

Even at full retail verizon would be cheapest. Maybe you wanna add a line? It would add another $40 to your bill though....

Your best bet would be to buy full retail from Verizon and then sell your Charge on Craigslist. Or you could trade it in at the Bestbuy trade in website now for $100 if you don't want the hassel but it would take a good month to get your money. Either way your gonna be paying more than you might want to.

Thanks for the tips guys. Well I just sold the Bold 9930 that I got on Verizon to switch back to Verizon. Got it for $99 bucks. Messed with it since I do at times have BlackBerry tendencies, then got a used Charge on ebay for $100 bucks. So I just sold my Bold on ebay for $430 and put that money aside. But I just cant see myself paying $700 for a phone. Its driving me insane!!

I think if I added a line, got the phone. Then bought a cheap flip phone to put on that line I would only pay the extra $10 a month. Used to do it with the BBs a couple years ago. But GOD, I told myself Im done with doing that and paying $10 extra for no reason a month! But man............for this phone. I might have to admit Im powerless once again!

it is more like $13 with taxes and that. Look at it this way. IF you upgraded you would pay $299. With the $430 you got from the bold and most likely the nexus will be $649 it is essentially like you are paying $250 which is less than what you would pay to upgrade.

I'm still trying to figure out the cheapest way to go about it, myself, being that I started a new two year agreement back in April of this year. I already have a little over $650 set aside, but... I still can't help but feel silly for wasting that much money on a phone, when my Thunderbolt is fine as is. Truthfully, though, the Nexus was always my first choice, there just wasn't one available on Verizon at the time I bought my first smartphone.

For a while, I figured I could sell my Thunderbolt and get some good money for it, and I'd feel less bad about it. But browsing eBay, it seems like most people are only getting $100-150 for it. That kinda sucks, because mine is basically like new (I take VERY good care of my electronics, although my Thunderbolt did manage to get one very tiny, almost unnoticeable scratch on the screen recently), and I'd be selling the 32GB microSD card and an external battery with it. If $100-150 is all I could get for that whole set, that's hardly worth it, yanno? I paid $250, total (I paid $200 for the phone, $50 for the battery), so I'd like to have at least made that back, but I assume no one is willing to buy a Thunderbolt for any more than about $150. :/

That makes good sense. I didnt think about it that way. Then I could sell my Charge and recoupe at least half of the $250 I would spend back. :)

Ill tell you this. If you sell it, you have to know how to present it right on ebay. Ive been on ebay for 13 years and know of different was that you can cater to your electronics and make them stand out. Great pictures, great description and also a must, great feedback! But Ill let you know right now. I wouldnt sell that 32GB card with it. Keep that around. Its not worth losing the price of the phone plus that huge MicroSD card. I would just get rid of the phone.

Of course there is the absolute tiniest glimmer of hope that because this is a brief exclusive as the first US carrier with Android 4.0 on a phone before Christmas, they could do like the Droid X or the iPhone and offer people upgrade price for those not eligible for upgrade (I am not gonna gamble on that but really wish they would :( )

Heres an idea, pay the $200 fee to cancel your contract, then sign up again for 2 years. Then you would save $150

I had that idea a while back when I was getting a new phone and the rep told me he could do it and still keep the same number. I didnt go through with it thought so I cant say that it would actually work. But its worth a shot to ask

lame :/

The way you do it is simple.

1. Add a line for the Nexus. Pay $300.
2. Put the nexus on your older line and don't put the phone you currently have on the new line. (They will put a dummy esn on it)
3. Cancel the new line a couple days later and pay the $350 fee
4. Sell the Charge for 100-200 (I've seen people recently sell good condition ones on craigslist for 280)

$350+$300 = $650-$280= $370 total spent which is just a little higher than the cost on two year contract.

I'm going to do this and sell my Droid Razr to get it. So I will only be spending like 100-200 on mine.

You can also cancel you line and call the Verizon "Win Back" department 24 hours later and ask to come back. In that conversation they will offer to make your account look like you have an upgrade that you can use.

Or buy phone at $300 with a new line. Dump the phone onto old line and put a old junk phone on your new line at $10 a month. Over 2 years its $240. So $300+$240=$540 with $300 up front and the $240 paid over 2 years. Then you also have a extra phone number to use and another line to upgrade in the future. :-)
