Touchscreen unusable when plugged in

When my phone is plugged in to power, touching the screen causes random touch events and wreaks havoc. In fact, my finger need only be near the screen without touching it to induce havoc.

Subsequently unplugging the phone sent the phone to the opposite extreme, making it unusually insensitive to touch, often ignoring my finger. Unplugging the phone and turning the display off and back on again (quick presses of the power button) resolved the issue.

I noticed this once before, failed to duplicate it on a second attempt, and am now seeing it again. I recall seeing someone else mention this behavior before. I am using a generic USB power cable though, if that could be the problem.

MOTOROLA, PLEASE FIX.

the generic power cord is most of your problem i had the same issues and swapped to a moto charger and the problem for the most part went away.

Yup. Thanks. That was the problem. But the cable that comes with the phone is too short. Any idea how I select a compatible replacement? Do I really have to buy a cord from Motorola?

I just got a usb extension cord, thus retaining the motorola usb cord as well. Works fine, no problems.

I see this problem was already solved but I wanted to chime in anyways. With my old DX and DX2, when I would use my wife's HTC cord my screen would do the exact same thing. As soon as I would use my charger the problems were gone!.

I ended up calling Moto and telling them that the cord that came with my DX was too short and the nice rep sent me a new charger with what appears to be close to a 5 foot cord.

Thanks everyone! I got a USB extension cord and it's working fine.

Where can I get a moto usb extention cord?

My extension cord isn't Moto. It's generic, and it's working fine. I am however using the out-of-the-box Moto power adapter at one end of the extension cord and the out-of-the-box Moto micro-USB connector at the other end.
