Just wondering everyone's thoughts on using the transfer tool to bring over data from a prior Pixel to the new one, versus doing a fresh install...

I recall that in my early Pixel years (1 to 2, 2 to 3) that it worked but there were some minor issues. Just curious if anyone has used it to migrate to their new 7/7 Pro, and if there's any reason at all to not use the transfer tool in its current state.

I used it in combination with google backup when I went from my Samsung to this Pixel6 and it worked very well. Can't think it would be any different going from a 6 to a 7.

Under most conditions I do a fresh install of all apps when going to a new phone ESPECIALLY with a new OS version! I think this can mitigate bugs and unexplainable quirks. However, I get tired of going through all the steps to do it that way, and it seems that Google backup is better today than it was a few years ago so I will probably let it all flow back and then deal with any unforeseen issues. YMMV

I always do a fresh install. Fresh phone, fresh install. Just my MO.

I just transfer over all my old messages from Google backup, always re-download apps from the app store.

I always do fresh installs. I will restore data from my Google 1 account but will never transfer from old phone.

I've always transferred everything from my prior phone to save time and I've had no issues. Just did the same from my P6P to my P7P and it's up and running fine.

I transferred from pixel 4xl to 7 Pro and it was easy and quick

Why is transferring from the old phone to the new one bad? Just trying to see the pro and cons of both

More times than not it leaves me with a rogue so that drains my battery and I end up factory resetting. So I just stopped doing that and do a selective restore from my Google one account backup

I have moved, over the USB cable, almost all of my data from Pixel 5 to Pixel 7 Pro without any issues. All photos I have taken are in Cloud so I don't care about them, but the apps, messanges, some settings, etc. have been transfered successfully.

Transferred Data from Nexus 6 to Pixel 2 XL to Pixel 5 to Pixel 6 Pro and now to the Pixel 7 Pro they all went fine...The Camera App wouldn't open. Downloaded 20 or so updates including camera and it fixed it.

Otherwise its fine. After each I restored my Nova backup.

I just picked my flip for backup which was created about 4 hours before setting up the new phone.. all my apps were downloaded successfully and settings. Text and call logs with no issues.. I think I had to download one app from the Google store that did not transfer over

I have used the transfer for years but this time decided to start from scratch. The only thing I'd like to transfer would be previous WiFi connections. Is there a way to do just that?

I install updates, reset and restore from Google backup. I always had issues (battery drain) when transferred using physical cable.

I transferred everything over from my Samsung S20+ to my Pixel7 pro and its been fine so far. It's just figuring out which apps I have to open up and log into again which is kind of a pain . But it would be the same if I were reloading the app from scratch. So no biggy. the phone has been great so far.

I've used the transfer cable in the past and my new phone would have the all settings transferred. Even my home screen would be identical. Not this time. I went from a 6 Pro to a 7 Pro. What went wrong?
