Transfer files in download mode

My LG G3 has been stuck in a boot loop since installing new firmware, I have tried LG PC Suite to no avail.

I am going to try a reset of the phone through the recovery mode, but would like to get some data off the phone first.

I can get the phone into Download Mode, is there a way to transfer files from the phone when it's in Download Mode? Any help would be much appreciated.

I presume you have TWRP installed?
If not you should be able to install the correct version of TWRP while in download.
Once that is done, you should be able to see the device and transfer files while in recovery.
I know I can and do transfer files to/from my Nexus 6P while in recovery.

No that's not something I have installed, a quick Google says it works on rooted phones.

Mine isn't rooted, is that the case?
