Transfer photos and pics from phone to sd card

How do I transfer photos from phone to sd card i have a samsung galaxy grand prime i can't get it to save to sd card ive even tried making new files

I have an S5, but the steps should be the same:
Open "My Files" (app)>select Images>long press to select desired images>press the 3 dots on the top right>tap move>tap SD card>select folder you'd like to move them to.
When you've navigated to the desired folder, tap "move here" on the top right of your screen. If you don't have the My Files app, any file explorer app should work.

I installed a SanDisk card this morning, but moving the photos from "the device" to "the sd card" fails every time... However, I CAN transfer photos from a laptop to the phone's SD card and view the photos. Are there permissions on "the device" folder which need to be reset before files can be transferred from "the device" to the "sd card"
